Filming is now underway on Viva La Madness, the sixth movie starring Jason Statham. The cast also includes several well-known actors, with three of them having previously worked with the director.
Vinnie Jones (known for films like Snatch and Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels), Jason Isaacs (White Lotus, Harry Potter), Babs Olusanmokun (The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare), Camila Mendes (Riverdale), Ben Foster (Hell or High Water), Jonny Lee Miller (Elementary), and Raúl Alejandro (La Reina del Flow) are all starring in the upcoming action-thriller.
Jones, Olusanmokun, and Miller have previously collaborated with Ritchie on his films. Mendes, however, is a new addition to the team. This project is a unique adaptation of J.J. Connolly’s 2011 novel, bearing the same title.
Viva La Madness is a follow-up to the author’s 2000 novel, Layer Cake, which was made into a 2004 film featuring Daniel Craig before he became James Bond. Despite being a sequel to Layer Cake, the new book, Viva La Madness, won’t have any connection to the movie version.
What Is Viva La Madness About?
Details about the movie’s plot are still secret. But if the film stays true to the book, it will center on a drug dealer known only as X, who is planning to come back to London after being in hiding in the Caribbean. Jason Statham will be taking over the role of X from Craig.
The story begins immediately after his arrival, when his friends, Sonny King and Roy Burns, accidentally anger a powerful Venezuelan drug cartel who are searching for something important. He quickly finds himself caught in a dangerous conflict between competing gangs, making it difficult to figure out who he can trust and who wants him dead, according to the book’s description.
Jason Statham and Guy Ritchie are teaming up again for a new film, Viva La Madness, marking their first collaboration since 2023’s Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre. Statham has worked with Ritchie the longest of any actor, appearing in the director’s debut films, Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels (1998) and Snatch (2000).
After working together again on the 2005 film Revolver, fans waited over ten years for another project from Jason Statham and Guy Ritchie. That came in 2021 with the action movie Wrath of Man. They then collaborated again just two years later on Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre.
Now that filming has begun on Viva La Madness, the action thriller is likely to hit theaters in 2027. That means Jason Statham fans will have two new movies to enjoy that year, including a sequel to The Beekeeper.
The movie is scheduled to hit theaters on January 15, 2027. Jason Statham returns as Adam Clay, a dangerous and expert assassin nicknamed the Beekeeper, and he’s joined again by Emmy Raver-Lampman, Jemma Redgrave, and Jeremy Irons.
