Guy Ritchie’s MobLand Becomes a Streaming Hit on HBO Max

Even seven months after it first appeared on Paramount+, the show is still very popular with viewers. Interestingly, it’s now gaining even more traction on a different streaming service.

As a big streaming fan, I’ve been keeping an eye on MobLand, and it’s really popping up everywhere! According to FlixPatrol, it’s currently in the top 5 on SkyShowtime in a bunch of European countries – which makes sense, as it only just finished airing there after a delayed release, so people were probably waiting to watch the whole season at once. But what really surprised me is that it’s actually the number one show on HBO Max in places like the Philippines and Thailand! That’s a huge accomplishment, and it’s great to see a show gaining traction across different platforms and regions.

As a big fan, I’m thrilled to see MobLand doing so well globally – it totally proves Paramount+ made the right decision renewing it back in June! They announced that with over 26 million viewers and still growing, the show’s become a huge hit. Chris McCarthy, a head at Paramount, specifically credited the creative team – Guy, Jez, Ronan, and David Glasser – and the incredible performances from Tom, Pierce, and Helen. He also mentioned it hit #1 in the UK, which is fantastic! It’s just great to see a show connect with audiences worldwide like this.

What Is MobLand About?

Ronan Bennett’s MobLand centers on the intense rivalry between two London crime families, the Harrigans and the Stevensons. Their violent conflict puts everything – and everyone – at risk. Tom Hardy stars as Harry Da Souza, a cunning and charismatic ‘fixer’ who understands exactly where loyalties lie when these groups collide. According to a synopsis for Season 1, the series explores how far people will go for family, with the tagline: ‘family above everything’.

Tom Hardy leads the cast, joined by Pierce Brosnan and Helen Mirren who play Conrad and Maeve Harrigan, the leaders of a powerful crime family. Other key actors include Paddy Considine, Joanne Froggatt, Lara Pulver, Anson Boon, Mandeep Dhillon, Jasmine Jobson, Geoff Bell, Daniel Betts, Janet McTeer, Jordi Mollà, and Toby Jones.

Production on the new season is likely to begin before the month ends. It’s currently unknown if Ritchie, who directed and executive produced the first two episodes of MobLand, will direct any episodes in Season 2. However, he recently finished working on his Netflix series The Gentlemen, and doesn’t appear to have any other projects currently in production. This suggests he could be free to return to direct episodes of MobLand Season 2, unless he’s secretly working on something new.

MobLand is available to stream in the United States on Paramount+.
