Guy Ritchie’s Fountain of Youth Scores Major Streaming Milestone on Apple TV

Look, this director really knows how to grab you with a slick, quick-moving crime thriller – think classic gangster flicks. But he’s not afraid to switch things up, and his latest film, coming out in 2025, proves it. It’s a departure from what we’re used to, and I’m really curious to see how it plays out.

Despite having a large budget and a famous cast, the movie Fountain of Youth skipped theaters and went straight to Apple TV+. Even though critics didn’t love it, the film has become a surprising success. According to FlixPatrol, it recently passed a significant mark, remaining on Apple TV’s top charts in the U.S. for over 200 days.

The adventure film, Fountain of Youth, launched on the streaming platform on May 23, 2025. Over the course of 255 days, from its release through February 2nd, it was featured in the Top 10 on Apple TV’s U.S. charts for an impressive 206 days. Currently, the film has climbed to fifth place on the U.S. charts and is also fifth globally.

The film was first announced in March 2023, with Dexter Fletcher (known for directing Bohemian Rhapsody and Rocketman) initially set to direct and James Vanderbilt (The Amazing Spider-Man) writing the screenplay. However, Fletcher left the project in January 2024, and Guy Ritchie took over as director.

John Krasinski, known from The Office, and Natalie Portman, famous for Black Swan, play long-lost siblings in Fountain of Youth. The movie follows their journey as they search for the legendary Fountain of Youth.

The film stars Eiza González, known from The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, Domhnall Gleeson of The Paper, Laz Alonso from The Boys, and Stanley Tucci, famous for The Devil Wears Prada.

With a large budget of $180 million, boosted by its famous cast and international filming locations like the UK, Thailand, and Egypt, the movie Fountain of Youth skipped theaters altogether. Because of this, we don’t know how much money it made in cinemas. However, its popularity on streaming services suggests it wasn’t a complete failure, even though critics didn’t love it.

Could Fountain of Youth Receive a Sequel?

The adventure heist film performed well on streaming platforms, but received generally negative reviews. Critics gave it a 35% rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on 118 reviews, while audiences only gave it a 38% rating. Though Fountain of Youth could have launched a series of films, Apple TV hasn’t announced whether they plan to continue the story.

After the movie premiered, director Guy Ritchie told Entertainment Weekly that he’d be open to making a sequel. He described the filmmaking experience as incredibly enjoyable, saying everyone involved had a great time and would be eager to work on another film together. He added that they’ll wait to see how the current movie performs before making any decisions.

Portman said she’d be happy to create more if audiences were interested, adding that making it was a really positive experience.

González enthusiastically agreed, saying he’d absolutely be on board with another film. He called the opportunity to travel the world with the cast again a dream come true, and believes it’s important to continue making movies like this for children – to nurture their curiosity and keep a sense of wonder alive, while also creating something lasting for families. He’s eager to continue the story.

Fountain of Youth is streaming on Apple TV.
