Guy Ritchie’s latest project is currently performing better than Anya Taylor-Joy’s on Apple TV+, giving him something to boast about.
Since it came out, The Gorge has consistently been among the most-watched movies on Apple TV+ in the U.S. However, Fountain of Youth, a new action movie directed by Guy Ritchie and starring Natalie Portman and John Krasinski, has now become more popular.
As of March 9, 2026, Ritchie’s film is ranked third on Apple TV, just ahead of Taylor-Joy’s movie at number four.
Both movies are currently behind Brad Pitt’s F1 on the Apple TV charts. F1 has been number one since its release on December 17th and continues to hold that position after 87 days. Elizabeth Olsen’s Eternity is in second place.
Released last May, the film Fountain of Youth didn’t impress most critics, currently holding a 35% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. While reviewers acknowledged the film had some entertainment value thanks to its well-known cast, they generally found the adventure to be unoriginal and reminiscent of Indiana Jones.
I recently read ScreenRant’s review of Fountain of Youth, and it really resonated with me. They described it as a bit of a mixed bag – sometimes exactly the adventure I crave, and totally enjoyable in those moments, but also noticeably flawed, both in small ways and bigger, more fundamental ones. The reviewer admitted they were torn – amused by the film and frustrated by it, and even while writing the review, couldn’t quite decide which feeling would ultimately win out. It sounds like a movie that really sticks with you, for better or worse!
The film The Gorge, starring Anya Taylor-Joy, received a moderately positive response from critics after its release on February 14, 2025, currently holding a 62% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. While reviewers appreciated the film’s romantic elements and praised the performances of Taylor-Joy and Miles Teller, many felt the story shifted from its initially unique style into a more typical action movie format.
ScreenRant’s review of The Gorge was mostly good. The reviewer noted that while the movie isn’t particularly deep, it delivers exciting genre thrills and benefits from the performances of two charming lead actors, including Anya Taylor-Joy, whom the reviewer considers one of their favorites.
While “Fountain of Youth” briefly overtook “The Gorge” in popularity on Apple TV+, that might not impact the future of the series. However, director Guy Ritchie has expressed interest in continuing the story and working with these characters. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly in May 2025, he said making the film was a very enjoyable experience and that everyone involved would be eager to return for a sequel, depending on how well the film performs. He stated, “It was the most pleasurable film to make…People had such a lovely time doing it that they’d love to go back for another bite. So, we’ll have to see how we do. We’d all love to go back.”
