Guy Ritchie & Tom Hardy’s Epic Crime Series ‘Mobland’ Is the Perfect Weekend Binge

With so many streaming services offering great TV shows, it’s hard to know what to watch. But if you’re looking for a compelling crime thriller to binge-watch, consider MobLand, a 2025 series created by Ronan Bennett (known for Top Boy). This Paramount+ show was a huge hit, breaking the platform’s record for the most viewers at launch – 2.2 million people tuned in when it premiered in March 2025. It remained popular for the entirety of its first season, consistently appearing among the top shows tracked by Nielsen.

MobLand is a new crime series set in London, focusing on the brutal conflict between two powerful criminal families. Though Tom Hardy plays a key role as the family’s problem-solver, Harry Da Souza, he’s just one of many big names in a stellar cast who fully commit to this intense and violent thriller. While the story follows familiar crime drama themes, the show, created by Ronan Bennett and directed in part by Guy Ritchie, feels fresh and stands out from other shows in the genre.

Ronan Bennett’s ‘Mobland’ Is a Gritty, Violent, Star-Studded Gangster Series

I’m really excited about MobLand because the cast is incredible! Tom Hardy plays this guy who’s basically a problem-solver for the powerful Harrigan family, and Pierce Brosnan and Helen Mirren are absolutely fantastic as the heads of that family. Paddy Considine, who I loved in House of the Dragon, plays Hardy’s best friend and the older son, and Joanne Froggatt from Downton Abbey and Lara Pulver from Sherlock play their wives. It’s not just them, though – the Harrigans are locked in a feud with Geoff Bell’s crew, the Stevensons, and honestly, so many familiar faces show up throughout the first season. It’s a real treat for any TV fan!

Okay, so the cast of MobLand is seriously stacked, but what really grabbed me was how everyone seemed to get the show’s energy. Brosnan and Mirren are absolutely wild as the heads of both their family and the Harrigan crime syndicate, and you can tell they’re having a blast playing these characters. The rest of the cast plays it a little more realistically, which actually makes the craziness of Brosnan and Mirren even more tense and gripping. It definitely gets a bit over-the-top and almost cartoonish at times, but honestly, that’s part of what makes it so good – it’s just fun to watch on every level.

Beyond the acting, the show’s raw, violent, and often unpleasant tone sets it apart from typical crime dramas, giving it a much grander feel. While it doesn’t reach the level of character deaths seen in shows like Game of Thrones, you genuinely feel like anyone could be in danger, thanks to the constant betrayals and scheming. The show features compelling main characters, but avoids portraying anyone as a traditional hero. This creates a fast-paced, thrilling plot where everyone is constantly on the brink of disaster. It’s a much more exciting experience than most mob shows, and the first season is perfect for a non-stop binge-watch.

Tom Hardy Is at His Most Magnetic in ‘Mobland’

Many of the characters in MobLand are driven by unpleasant motives, making it hard to genuinely care about them. However, Tom Hardy’s character, Harry Da Souza – a calm and tough professional – is an exception and easily wins the audience over. In a chaotic story filled with unpredictable people, Hardy’s natural charisma consistently steals the show. He portrays Harry as a constantly threatening, yet remarkably collected, figure who always seems to be in control, even alongside talented actors like Paddy Considine and the delightfully unhinged Pierce Brosnan. He consistently commands attention whenever he’s on screen.
