The franchise has been quite successful overall, but a few installments didn’t get the attention they deserved. Now, model kits are available for pre-order for two of these lesser-known mecha anime, giving them a fresh opportunity to shine.
Bandai recently announced two detailed model kits from the Gundam universe. One is a High Grade kit based on the Gundam Reconguista in G series, and the other is a Master Grade kit inspired by the Mobile Suit Gundam F90 manga and anime. Though these series weren’t the most popular, their new model kits are sure to be exciting for fans to build and display.
Bandai Revives 2 Overlooked Gundam Series With New High Grade & Master Grade Gunpla

Bandai has released a new model kit of the G-Self, the main robot from the anime series Reconguista in G. This 1/144 scale kit comes with two different backpacks. One transforms the robot into a jet-equipped form, while the other gives it a pair of wing-like attachments.
This collectible is designed after the G-Self from the anime movie. It’s packed with detail and comes with swappable backpacks, plus weapons like a Beam Saber, Beam Rifle, and shield. It will be released in October for about $70, though prices may vary depending on where you buy it.
The MG 1/100 Mission Pack X Type is an accessory set designed for the F90IIIY Cluster Gundam, a mobile suit from the Gundam F90 manga (which takes place before the Mobile Suit Gundam F91 movie). It doesn’t build the mobile suit itself, but adds outer armor to the Cluster Gundam kit and allows it to transform into the X Fortress flight mode.
This expansion set features the Zenobia, a weapon unit that transforms into either a powerful double beam cannon or a protective beam shield. It also includes boosters that give the impression of incredible speed, making the mobile suit’s armor look even more striking. You can pre-order the figure now through April 16 for approximately $46.
Despite being created by the original Gundam author, Yoshiyuki Tomino, Gundam Reconguista in G didn’t perform well and didn’t revitalize the series as hoped. Gundam F91 also aimed for a fresh start, but its story felt rushed because it was condensed from a planned TV series into a single movie. Even so, both series continue to inspire products and merchandise. For Western fans, the Master Grade model kits are often the only way to find items related to the Gundam F90 manga.
