2026 has been fantastic for video games, with hits like Crimson Desert and Pokémon Pokopia. However, the game everyone is truly waiting for is still on the horizon. Rockstar’s sequel to GTA V, expected in November, is almost certain to revolutionize the action-adventure genre.
With the highly anticipated return to Vice City in the new GTA VI game, other developers are rescheduling their releases to avoid going head-to-head with it. Now, another eagerly awaited reboot has been delayed to avoid the competition.
Xbox Pushes Fable’s Release to 2027
Xbox has announced that the new Fable game will now be released in February 2027. While fans might be disappointed by the delay, it’s understandable considering the huge anticipation for Grand Theft Auto VI.
It’s been a while since a new Fable game was released – the last one came out after Lionhead Studios closed in 2016 – so fans are likely used to waiting. The recent trailer for the game’s reboot, which came out in January, looks great and suggests the new game could be as good as the older ones.
No matter how good the new Fable game turns out, it would have been overshadowed by the release of Grand Theft Auto VI. Releasing a major RPG like Fable around the same time as GTA VI could have meant it wouldn’t get the attention it deserves, especially for Xbox.
Rather than launching amidst a busy period in 2026, the new Fable game is now expected to be one of the first big Xbox releases in 2027. This extra time will also allow the developers, Playground Games, to further refine the game, which is particularly important considering the high expectations for the franchise’s return.
Okay, so it’s a bummer that Fable is now coming out after 2026, I won’t lie. But honestly, if a little more time means the game is really good, I’m okay with the delay. We’ve been waiting over ten years for a proper Fable sequel, so a few extra months feels pretty small in the grand scheme of things. Hopefully, it’ll all be worth it!
