Addison’s shocking return in season 22 of Grey’s Anatomy is setting the stage for even more dramatic events. The medical drama, a cornerstone of ABC’s programming, continues to follow the doctors and staff at Grey-Sloan hospital during the 2025-2026 television season. Though a lot has evolved since the show began in the mid-2000s, its long run allows it to bring back familiar moments and feelings for viewers.
As a longtime fan, I’ve always loved how Grey’s Anatomy isn’t afraid to revisit characters from the past. They’ve even brought back people who’ve died – like Derek, George, and Mark! So when I heard Addison was returning to Seattle, I wasn’t surprised, but I was excited. It was great to see her again, though I was definitely bummed to learn about what happened with her and Jake.
Grey’s Anatomy Is Leaving Addison & Jake’s Fate Unresolved Indefinitely

On a recent episode of Grey’s Anatomy, Addison had a heartfelt conversation with Amelia about her work traveling the country to support women affected by abortion bans and limited access to reproductive healthcare. She explained that while she’s deeply dedicated to this cause, it’s created tension in her marriage. Initially, her husband Jake supported her advocacy, but he now wants her to prioritize their family over her work, forcing her to make a difficult choice.
Ugh, I’m really frustrated with Addison’s storyline! It’s bad enough she’s dealing with all this, but Grey’s Anatomy season 22 just left everything hanging. And the worst part? Kate Walsh was only confirmed for a single episode, and we haven’t heard anything to suggest that’s changed. Honestly, I’d rather they just resolve it – even if it means Addison and Jake don’t end up together – than leave us on this endless cliffhanger. It’s just cruel!
Why It’s So Devastating To Learn About Addison’s Rocky Marriage
Addison Montgomery was first seen on Grey’s Anatomy as Derek Shepherd’s estranged wife, initially portrayed as an obstacle to his relationship with Meredith. However, the show developed her character beyond that initial role, and she quickly became a beloved character, eventually leading to her own spin-off series, Private Practice. This new show not only broadened the Grey’s Anatomy universe but also allowed for a more in-depth exploration of Addison, including her own romantic life, such as her relationship with Jake.
The series Private Practice concluded with Addison and Jake happily marrying, providing a satisfying resolution to her personal life. Therefore, discovering their marriage is now in trouble, potentially ending in divorce, is incredibly disappointing. This dramatic turn seems to serve no real purpose for Addison’s story except to create a surprise moment in Grey’s Anatomy.
