Gore Verbinski’s latest movie, the R-rated sci-fi film Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die, is getting excellent reviews. It’s also broken a Rotten Tomatoes record for the director, best known for the Pirates of the Caribbean films.
Director Gore Verbinski is famous for his work on the 2002 horror film The Ring and the first three Pirates of the Caribbean movies – The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003), Dead Man’s Chest (2006), and At World’s End (2007). However, after the 2013 film The Lone Ranger flopped badly at the box office, and following A Cure for Wellness in 2016, Verbinski didn’t direct another movie for ten years.
After premiering at Fantastic Fest in 2025, the horror film Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die has received a 93% rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes. This is director Gore Verbinski’s best score on the review site to date.
Currently, the film has 54 reviews, and its rating might change as more reviews come in. We don’t have a viewer rating yet, but that should be available after the movie is released in theaters. You can find a comparison of this film’s score with other movies directed by Gore Verbinski below.

Okay, so I just heard about this new movie, Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die, and it sounds totally wild! It’s directed by Gore Verbinski and the script is by the guy who wrote Love and Monsters. Apparently, Sam Rockwell plays a guy from the future who goes back in time and basically tries to get regular people from a Los Angeles diner to help him fight a seriously messed-up AI. Seriously, how cool does that sound?
The film stars Academy Award winner Sam Rockwell (known for Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri) and features a supporting cast including Haley Lu Richardson, Michael Peña, Emmy nominee Zazie Beetz (Atlanta), Asim Chaudhry, Tom Taylor, four-time Emmy nominee Juno Temple (Ted Lasso, Fargo), along with Dino Fetscher, Anna Acton, Daniel Barnett, Dominique Maher, Adam Burton, and Georgia Goodman.
I recently read ScreenRant’s take on Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die, and it was pretty different from what most critics are saying. Gregory Nussen gave it a four out of ten, and he described it as a really enthusiastic but ultimately empty rant against social media and AI. He felt the movie was trying too hard, and while Sam Rockwell was fantastic, the film itself felt stuck in an older generation’s frustration to deliver its point.
Critics generally agree that Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die is a clever and funny comedy with real substance. They praise Sam Rockwell’s energetic performance and see it as a successful comeback for director Gore Verbinski. Reviewers note the film skillfully mixes wild humor with thought-provoking themes and relevant observations about artificial intelligence.
Critics generally love the film’s fresh ideas, heartfelt story, and bold commentary on our reliance on technology, even if the plot sometimes feels complicated or crowded. The lively pace, creative visuals, and Sam Rockwell’s performance all contribute to an engaging experience throughout Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die.
