Okay, big news for gamers and fantasy fans! Prime Video is officially moving forward with its live-action God of War series. As someone who’s been following this franchise for over two decades – ever since the original game blew us all away – I’m really excited to see this come to life. I’m hearing pre-production is already happening up in Vancouver, which means we’re one step closer to seeing Kratos on our screens!
I just got a look at the premise of this new game, and it’s really compelling. It centers around Kratos and his son, Atreus, as they travel together to scatter the ashes of their loved one, Faye. But it’s more than just a journey; it’s about a father trying to shape his son into a worthy god, and a son trying to help his father reconnect with his humanity. It sounds like a really powerful dynamic, and I’m already invested in seeing how their relationship unfolds.
Who is joining the God of War TV show?
Ólafur Darri Ólafsson, known for his role in “Severance,” will play the character of Thor in the upcoming “God of War” TV series on Prime Video. He joins Ryan Hurst, who will play Kratos, and Max Parker as Heimdall. The show is expected to announce additional cast members in the near future.
The description of Thor portrays him as a powerful, battle-worn figure deeply troubled by past conflicts. He was once a devoted warrior and his father’s trusted ally, but now lives with the weight of his past actions, turning to alcohol to cope. He’s become withdrawn, even from his family, which has only increased his loneliness. Despite his current state, the immense power and potential danger that define the God of Thunder still lie within him.
Ronald D. Moore, the showrunner, will write and executive produce the new series based on Norse mythology. Emmy-winning director Frederick E.O. Toye will helm the first two episodes. Joining them as executive producers are Maril Davis, Cory Barlog, Naren Shankar, Matthew Graham, Asad Qizilbash, Jeff Ketcham, Hermen Hulst, Roy Lee, and Brad Van Arragon, with Joe Menosky, Marc Bernardin, Tania Lotia, and Ben McGinnis also contributing. The series is a production of Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios, in association with PlayStation Productions and Tall Ship Productions. Importantly, it’s already been renewed for a second season before the first one even airs.
