Michael Waldron, who created and produced *Loki* and wrote *Avengers: Doomsday*, has said Glen Powell would be a great fit for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Powell has recently gained a lot of attention for his performances in films like *Anyone But You*, *Twisters*, and *Top Gun: Maverick*. Waldron believes Powell’s energetic, funny, and charming personality would make him a fantastic addition to the MCU.
In August 2022, actor Glen Powell responded to rumors that he might play Cyclops in a future Marvel reboot, stating that Marvel hadn’t contacted him about the role. Now, in 2025, fans are again discussing Powell for a major MCU part – this time, as a potential replacement for Chris Evans as Captain America. Adding to the buzz, a writer from the film *Avengers: Doomsday* has publicly stated that Powell would be a perfect fit for a specific Marvel hero.
In an interview with The Playlist, Marvel producer Michael Waldron suggested that Glen Powell would be a strong candidate to play Nova in the Marvel Cinematic Universe when the opportunity arises.
The movie *Guardians of the Galaxy* (2014) featured the Nova Corps., but the character Richard Rider – who eventually becomes the hero Nova – hasn’t appeared in a Marvel movie or show yet. In December 2024, Deadline announced that Marvel Studios had brought on Ed Bernero to write and run a *Nova* series for Disney+, but the project seemed to be stalled.
I think Waldron absolutely nailed the casting of John Boyega as Nova! He’s got that incredible presence, but can also really bring the emotional weight to a role. My only worry is that in the comics, Richard Rider was just 17 when he became Nova, and Boyega’s obviously much older now. It just wouldn’t be believable if they tried to play him as a teenager. But honestly? I think they could totally make it work by going with the more mature, fully-formed version of Nova. Boyega has the star power to really kick off Marvel’s cosmic side of things in the next few years, and I’m excited to see it!
Originally created as a one-time presentation, *Nova* is now potentially being developed into a full series. Ed Bernero is leading the project as showrunner and writer, though details about the cast and when it might air are currently unknown.
Why Nova Is Still the Perfect Choice for Glen Powell (Despite Possible Complaints)
While Glen Powell would be a great choice for a Marvel superhero, a strong storyline is even more important. Simply casting a popular actor isn’t enough to guarantee a successful movie.
As a big MCU fan, I’m already thinking about what comes after the Multiverse Saga, and I think focusing on the Nova Corps would be brilliant. They’ve already been introduced in the films, so fans like me are already familiar with them, and it would be a fantastic way to dive deeper into the cosmic side of things. It feels like a natural next step, honestly.
Now that the original Guardians of the Galaxy team is finishing their story, Nova has the potential to become a major new leader in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Casting Glen Powell would be a fantastic choice to help launch this exciting new phase of cosmic adventures.
Richard Rider, the Nova character from Marvel comics, is known for being a bit of a rule-breaker, much like other popular MCU heroes such as Iron Man and Thor. If the MCU version of Nova embodies this same personality, actor Powell could join the ranks of the franchise’s witty and humorous heroes that fans adored during the Infinity Saga. This would create a comforting and nostalgic feeling for audiences, potentially revitalizing the franchise and combating future audience fatigue.
