Glen Powell’s new show on Hulu is a huge hit, quickly becoming the most popular program on both Hulu and Disney+. Called *Chad Powers*, the series stars Powell as Russ Holiday, a former college football player trying to revive his career. He goes undercover, pretending to be a different person – ‘Chad Powers’ – to join a struggling team at a small college. Powell fully committed to the role, even wearing a microphone during filming like professional football players, and his on-the-field commentary was reportedly very funny.
Glen Powell, the star of *Twisters*, has fully embraced the role of Chad Powers, going all-in on the character. This included working with Eli Manning – whose sketch inspired the series – and even intentionally getting booed by fans *during* a real football game for filming! It was inevitable he’d be fitted with a microphone, a common practice at games to capture audio. The *Chad Powers* TikTok account compiled a video of his best moments, and honestly, everything he says is hilarious.

It would be amazing to see a whole episode following Chad with a microphone, but even just seeing Powell dress up as Chad and say whatever comes to mind is really funny. I’m curious about where he gets these funny lines, but here are a few of my favorites:
- “Can somebody fry this thing up? I didn’t eat enough for lunch.”
- “After I get the butt squeezed, start moving.”
- “Right hand, left cheek. You just let it happen.”
- “We don’t need Wolverine.”
- “I was twerking. Your boy was twerking.”
Sam Powell and Michael Waldron created the series *Chad Powers*, which was inspired by *Eli’s Places* for ESPN. The show features Perry Mattfeld, Quentin Plair, Wynn Everett, Frankie Rodriguez, and Steve Zahn. It launched on Hulu on September 30th and has quickly become popular. It’s unclear if we’ll see additional behind-the-scenes footage or mic’d up moments, but Hulu may share more content as the season progresses.
Okay, so I just finished watching *Chad Powers*, and honestly, it’s a bit of a mixed bag. There are definitely some genuinely funny moments, both in the show itself and behind the scenes, but critics are pretty divided on whether it actually *works*. Rotten Tomatoes gives it a 57% critic score, which tells you a lot. But here’s the thing: the audience score is a much healthier 72%. And, at the end of the day, isn’t that what really counts? If the fans are laughing, it’s a win in my book.
The show hasn’t been officially renewed for a second season yet, but it’s still too soon to tell. There’s a good chance Glen Powell could return for Season 2 in the future. Until then, fans can enjoy new episodes of *Chad Powers* every Tuesday on Hulu, and there’s plenty more of the show to come.
