This February, 20th Century Studios is releasing the horror film Psycho Killer, from the team behind Barbarian and Weapons. The movie follows detective Jane Archer (Georgina Campbell), who is determined to hunt down a brutal serial killer known as the Satanic Slasher (James Preston Rogers) after witnessing her husband’s murder. Driven by loss, she pursues him across the country, intent on stopping his violent crimes. (You can read more about the real-life events that inspired the film.)
This movie is a really interesting mix – it feels like the suspenseful mystery of Zodiac combined with the over-the-top thrills of a classic slasher film. It doesn’t shy away from shocking and graphic violence, but it also carefully develops its villain and the way the main character, Jane, unravels the case.
TopMob’s Russ Milheim interviewed Georgina Campbell, the star of Psycho Killer. Campbell discussed the complexities of her character, Jane Archer, and how playing her differed from her role in the popular horror film Barbarian.
The new movie, Psycho Killer, is now showing in theaters. If you’re a fan of horror, you might also be interested in learning about an alternate ending that was considered for The Strangers: Chapter 3.
Psycho Killer’s Georgina Campbell Analyzes Her Complicated Character

“Her Fearlessness Comes Really From the Fact That She Has Nothing to Lose.”
- TopMob: “Jane is an incredibly competent detective. What do you think it is about her that makes her as fearless, efficient, and skilled as she is?”
Georgina Campbell believes Jane is incredibly resilient and knows how to handle things. What really drives her, though, is that she has absolutely nothing to lose. Having already lost her husband and seen her life fall apart, she feels completely unburdened. This allows her to fearlessly tackle any challenge, because she has no reservations about risking everything.
- TopMob: “That answer might also play into the next question, in what you know, on the flip side of that competency and efficiency, what do you think is her biggest weakness? What is her Achilles heel? Her biggest weakness?”
Georgina Campbell believes the character’s main weakness is her reluctance to ask for help. She tends to handle things independently, even though she has a supportive family and friends she could rely on. This leads her to keep a lot to herself, and it seems likely she’ll need therapy to process her emotions once everything is over. She appears to be someone who bottles up her feelings.
Working With a Terrifying Villain

“He’s Such an Intimidating Presence…”
- TopMob: “What was it like filming across from this terrifying psycho killer? Because I think he was a really, really unique villain, and the movie did so much to build him up. And you guys don’t have too many scenes together, but what was it like, both being with him in the room, but then also when you have to kind of interact with the idea of him, with the presence of him, and he has to be in the scenes, but not actually, physically be there?
Georgina Campbell enjoyed working with James Preston Rogers, praising him as a talented actor. She was particularly impressed with his unique interpretation of the character. Although they didn’t share many scenes, she found their interactions very positive and appreciated the opportunity to collaborate. She also mentioned that he has a naturally commanding presence due to his physique and voice, making the experience even more enjoyable.
- TopMob: “You’re obviously no stranger to horror, having been in the hit ‘Barbarian.’ I’m just curious, when it came to filming that movie and this film, how do those experiences compare?”
Georgina Campbell described her recent projects as very distinct from one another, noting that each film offers a unique experience. She particularly enjoyed working on ‘Barbarian,’ highlighting that it was a great opportunity for many newcomers and felt like director Zach Cregger’s strongest work, benefiting from a smaller budget and his personal creative vision. She contrasted this with her current film, which has been in development for years by Andrew Kevin Walker.
