George Lucas Teased His Art Museum Last Year at LA Comic Con
The recent Star Wars Day announcement is just the latest example of how George Lucas has been building excitement for his museum. He’s previously hinted at the power of visual storytelling and what visitors can expect, such as at a 2025 panel at Los Angeles Comic Con featuring comic book icons Frank Miller and Robert Rodriguez, where the museum’s impressive size was showcased.
Miller explained that his museum celebrates a uniquely human ability: the use of pictures to share narratives. He believes this is something no other species on Earth does.
According to Rodriguez, the museum’s artwork is designed to be open to interpretation, offering each visitor a unique and personal experience.
The Lucas Museum, planned for Los Angeles’s Exposition Park, will be designed by Ma Yansong of MAD Architects, with Stantec overseeing construction. Initial designs show a 300,000-square-foot building featuring large exhibition spaces, two modern theaters, areas for educational programs, and options for dining and shopping.
The Lucas Museum of Narrative Art will open on Sept. 22, 2026.
