George Clooney Has The Best Reaction To The Viral Louvre Heist Following Ocean’s Eleven Comparison

Just like the plot of the movie Ocean’s Eleven, a team of thieves pulled off a spectacular heist at the Louvre Museum in Paris on Sunday, stealing millions of dollars worth of jewels.

Even George Clooney, famous for playing Danny Ocean in the Ocean’s films, was amazed by the recent, widely-discussed jewel robbery. When asked if the complex heist reminded him of one of his movies, Clooney gave a witty reply (according to Variety and X).

It was a strange situation. While the outcome was awful, as a professional thief, I couldn’t help but admire the skill and audacity of the people involved.

Clooney questioned whether the thieves would ever be found, noting they hadn’t been caught yet. He conceded, “They really seem to have gotten away with it.”

Clooney described the audacious daytime robbery as “crazy,” and jokingly compared it to a scene from one of his Ocean’s films, saying, “It really was like an Ocean’s movie.”

It’s been seven years since the last Ocean’s movie, but a new sequel is finally in the works. George Clooney recently confirmed (via E!) that Brad Pitt, Julia Roberts, and Matt Damon will be joining him for the film.

Warner Brothers has approved the budget, and now we’re working on the filming schedule. We expect to begin shooting in around nine to ten months.

George Clooney has hinted at a potential Ocean’s 14 film, imagining the classic crew facing difficulties as they get older. David Leitch will direct this latest installment, taking over from Steven Soderbergh, who directed the first three Ocean’s movies, and Gary Ross, who directed the 2018 spin-off Ocean’s Eight.

Although it appeared Danny Ocean, played by George Clooney, had died in Ocean’s Eight—his grave was shown—he’s actually still alive and is expected to return for the next movie. It’s currently unclear whether any of the actresses from Ocean’s Eight will be in Ocean’s Fourteen.

A new movie exploring the origins of the Ocean’s franchise is in the works. Margot Robbie will play Danny Ocean’s mother, and Bradley Cooper is likely to play his father, after Ryan Gosling was no longer available for the role.

The 2001 film Ocean’s Eleven, a fresh take on the classic 1960s movie featuring the Rat Pack, brought the heist genre back into popularity and earned $450 million worldwide. The sequels, Ocean’s Twelve and Ocean’s Thirteen, were also huge successes, each making over $300 million. Ocean’s Eight came close to that level, earning $297 million.

George Clooney is returning to the role of Danny Ocean and is also starring in a new coming-of-age film called Jay Kelly, directed by Noah Baumbach. The movie features a large cast including Adam Sandler, Laura Dern, Billy Crudup, Riley Keough, Eve Hewson, and Greta Gerwig.

We haven’t heard any updates about the potential Ocean’s Eleven and Magic Mike crossover that George Clooney and Steven Soderbergh mentioned at the 2023 Toronto Film Festival. It’s likely the idea was just a joke, and they weren’t actually planning to make the movie.
