Gen V Season 2 Showrunner on How Marie Is [Spoiler]

Even after only three episodes, *Gen V* Season 2 has revealed a lot about the history of the world of *The Boys*. A key focus of the new season is the Odessa project, and its unexpected connection to Marie Moreau, played by Jaz Sinclair. Showrunner Michele Fazekas recently explained this connection and how it could lead to a confrontation between Marie and Homelander.

Michele Fazekas explains Marie’s Odessa link in Gen V Season 2

In an interview with Deadline, Fazekas explained that the ‘Odessa’ storyline in Gen V was designed to suggest Marie’s abilities might have been intentionally created for a specific reason, much like Homelander’s powers.

The situation with the character in Odessa showed us that superpowers in ‘The Boys’ often appear to happen randomly, but there are instances where they aren’t – and we see that pattern with Homelander, as well, according to the producer.

She explained that connecting Marie to Odessa and the superheroes’ origins was appealing because of its link to Godolkin University. This connection helps reveal the initial purpose of the characters and how it relates to Marie, drawing on established history and showing how it’s unfolding now.

The first three episodes of Gen V Season 2 reveal a surprising connection between Marie Moreau and the decades-old Odessa project, dating back to the 1960s. It’s discovered that Marie wasn’t conceived naturally – Vought was involved, and Dean Cipher was the one who ultimately brought her into the world.

Hamish Linklater, the actor who plays Cipher, recently explained that his character believes Marie is the key to defeating Homelander and becoming the ultimate power.

The details of the Odessa project are still unknown, but comments from Linklater and Fazekas hint it was created to fight someone as powerful as Homelander, and Marie seems to be a key part of it. With five episodes remaining in Gen V’s second season, we’ll likely learn more about this mysterious project soon.
