Lots of movies and TV shows are based on popular kids’ games like Clue, Trivial Pursuit, and Battleship. But the 2019 horror-comedy Ready or Not proved that a great movie based on a game concept doesn’t need to use an existing brand. That film helped launch directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett into the Scream franchise and allowed them to make their vampire movie, Abigail. Now, they’re back with a sequel, Ready or Not 2: Here I Come, and the first trailer has just been released.
This new horror movie looks fantastic! It seems like a great sequel to the first one, which was clever and visually impressive. The cast is amazing, and all their characters seem awful – which means I can’t wait to see what terrible things happen to them. Seriously, even the new character played by Sarah Michelle Gellar better watch out!

The sequel, Ready or Not 2, continues the story immediately after the first film. Grace, played by Samara Weaving, doesn’t even have time to recover from her wedding night ordeal when Elijah Wood arrives with more bad news: she’s about to face another terrifying challenge. This time, instead of her husband’s family, she’ll be up against four powerful families who secretly control the world, similar to the Illuminati. It seems killing a group of wealthy, influential people – even to save her own life – has created even bigger problems.
The show will introduce some new characters, including Ursula Danforth, played by Sarah Michelle Gellar – a name the writer finds instantly dislikeable. Gellar’s character is married to Titus Danforth, played by Shawn Hatosy, and his father is portrayed by the renowned director David Cronenberg.
The cast also includes familiar faces like Néstor Carbonell from The Dark Knight, Kevin Durand of Abigail, Olivia Cheng known for See, and Varun Saranga from Wynonna Earp. But a key new addition is Kathryn Newton, who previously starred in Big Little Lies. She’ll play Faith, Grace’s younger sister. Even though the sisters haven’t been close, they’ll have to team up to survive and ultimately fight for control of the planet’s ruling Council. It’s going to be quite a challenge.

The horror sequel, Ready or Not 2: Here I Come, written by Guy Busick and R. Christopher Murray, is scheduled to be released in theaters on April 10, 2026.
