Galactus Wants Franklin Richards: The Disturbing Demand in Fantastic Four’s First Steps

The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is set to unveil a highly anticipated film in years titled “The Fantastic Four: First Steps“, directed by Matt Shakman. This upcoming production is poised to bolster the impressive box-office performance of James Gunn’s Superman. While details about the ’60s style adventure are yet to be fully revealed, the growing number of trailers and advertisements offer some insights into the movie’s central plot, particularly the enigmatic villain Galactus and his plans, which seem to involve some form of destruction, though the specific target remains unclear.

It’s important to tread with caution when expressing desires, as Marvel Studios’ recent glimpse into their superhero epic appears to unveil Galactus’ intended target. Despite my continued optimism that the film will be enormous and awe-inspiring, the ominous demand from the antagonist is causing me to question the true measure of enjoyment this journey might offer.

Reed Richards Reveals Galactus’ Extremely Problematic Demand

In the recently released snippet from the Fantastic Four, the scene primarily unfolds at a press conference, a key element of their promotional strategy since the beginning. Pedro Pascal’s character, Reed Richards, fields questions from reporters. He shocks everyone by confessing that, contrary to popular belief, the team has not yet defeated Galactus.

Although Johnny Storm, portrayed by Joseph Quinn, appeared self-assured about their eventual success, Reed explained the crucial factor behind their inability to pacify the colossal beast, stating:

He asked too high a price. . . . He asked for our child.

Oh dear me, Galactus, it’s quite inappropriate of you to appear on someone’s planet without warning, discover sensitive information about Sue Storm through questionable methods, find out she had a baby, and then arrange a premeditated abduction. That goes beyond being wicked, it’s truly despicable behavior, if I may say so.

It’s not necessary to be a parent oneself to experience a pang of unease when finding out that a Marvel villain’s main scheme involves stealing someone else’s child. However, as a parent myself, I can relate to the distress that arises from the concept of preventing impending catastrophe by giving up one’s own child. It’s no surprise then why Reed and Sue might not be overly enthusiastic about advertising a “Giving Away Our New Son” celebration.

Why Would A Being As Powerful As Galactus Want The Infant Franklin Richards?

Although the video doesn’t provide a definitive answer about Galactus’ intentions regarding the smallest member of the Fantastic Four, Franklin Richards, delving into his comic book background could offer valuable insights. Known as one of Marvel Comics’ most powerful adolescents, Franklin possesses extraordinary telekinetic abilities and a proficiency in controlling and projecting energy.

One distinctive skill that Franklin Richards possesses is the uncanny ability to generate pocket dimensions and entire multiverses from nothing, a talent that aligns surprisingly well with Galactus’ destructive pastime: consuming planets. To satisfy his immense hunger for planets, it goes without saying that he needs a feast worthy of such an appetite. In theory, Franklin Richards could provide the antagonist with an endless source of nourishment. This potential supply could significantly alter the trajectory of upcoming Marvel movies, depending on how effective such strategies prove to be.

It’s important to point out that Galactus isn’t typically portrayed as inherently malicious or evil in his actions. When he appears to consume Earth after his herald, the Silver Surfer, informs him it’s a suitable meal, it doesn’t imply he harbors anger towards anyone on the planet. Instead, he’s simply hungry – much like getting angry at a plate of chicken tenders would be irrational because they are merely food.

Considering that this immense being requested the Richards to surrender their child, not with any hint of ill-will in his tone, but instead, a sense of yearning or necessity. It’s downright chilling.

Check out the clip below to get another glimpse of just how impossible big Galactus is.

Could we see the original Marvel family making a selfless decision to sacrifice their eldest member for the sake of Earth and all its inhabitants, or will Franklin’s abilities somehow pave the way for the proper introduction of the Richards into the Marvel Cinematic Universe timeline?

Determine at what point does the film “The Fantastic Four: First Step” secure a release date in the 2025 movie schedule, expanding to cinemas on July 25.
