This anime episode was the standout of Winter 2026. It successfully recaptured the frightening atmosphere of the demons, the epic magical battles, and the strong character development that fans enjoyed in the first part of Season 1.
This episode shifts the focus away from Frieren, allowing returning characters Genau and Methode to shine as powerful mages. The anime has hinted at bringing back other familiar faces as well, and with the Divine Revolt Arc wrapping up, Sein is mentioned again, giving fans hope he’ll reappear later in the series. He’s positioned as a successor to Heiter’s magical abilities.
Frieren Season 2 Episode 8 Name-Drops Sein as Major Member of the Cast
With Genau and Stark recovering from injuries they received while fighting the four-sworded demon Revolte, Methode notes that Frieren’s group doesn’t have a priest, which could be a problem as they venture further into the Northern Plateau. She offers to join them after she completes her current task with Genau, but Frieren gently refuses, explaining they’ve already promised a place on the team to someone else.
While Methode would have been a valuable member of the group, particularly considering her family’s history of demon hunting, Frieren is firm that Sein will remain their priest, strongly suggesting he’ll return as a key character.
How Important was Sein in Frieren Season 1?
Sein played a significant supporting role in the first season of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End, joining the main characters’ adventure in episodes 13 through 17. He originally trained to be a priest, showing exceptional skill, but he didn’t pursue that path. However, after traveling with Frieren’s group, he was inspired to start living life to the fullest and follow his dreams.
Even though Sein was only the party’s priest for a short time, he significantly altered the group’s dynamic, which viewers clearly noticed and enjoyed. He connected well with all three main characters, acting as a father figure to both Stark and Fern, and building a fun, supportive relationship with them all based on mutual trust.
Sein eventually decided to leave Frieren’s group because he learned where his childhood friend was, and it was in a different direction than where Frieren was headed. While everyone understood and wished him well, things weren’t quite the same for the party after he left.
It Will be a Long While Until Sein Officially Comes Back in the Frieren Anime
Good news for fans of the character Sein: he reappears in Chapter 135 of the manga, during the Foundation Festival arc. He immediately senses Frieren’s magical energy after finding himself in the same town as the adventurers who impacted his life, and actively seeks them out. He reconnects with the group in the following chapter.
I’m completely hooked on Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End, and I’ve been keeping track of how much of the manga the anime has covered. As of the latest episode, Season 1 only goes up to chapter 76. Now, things are really getting exciting as we start to see the Golden Land Arc, which is the longest story arc in the manga so far! Honestly, at the rate things are going – and with this season being on the shorter side – it feels like we’ll need another whole season just to do it justice. Don’t worry though, for those wondering about Sein, he’s definitely still part of the story – we just won’t be seeing him back in the anime right away!
