While Guillermo del Toro is directing the new Netflix gothic drama Frankenstein, Jacob Elordi truly brought the Creature to life. In a recent interview, Elordi shared that he was responsible for developing every aspect of the character – from his physical appearance and accent to how he moved – to portray the monster created by a strange scientific experiment.

While in London recently, the actor from Euphoria mentioned that he designed the look and behavior of the Creature in Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein movie.
Jacob Elordi told GamesRadar+ he had full creative freedom when developing his character. He explained that after reading the script, he immediately envisioned how to portray the role and then focused on bringing that vision to life.
Because the Creature was built from many different bodies, Elordi ultimately decided how it would move and behave.
The 28-year-old actor described how he developed the Creature’s unique movements. He explained that he studied butoh, a Japanese dance form, which involved experimenting with unusual ways of walking and observing himself in the mirror. He’d try different gestures and ask for feedback, often being told what didn’t work or was overdone. It was a lot of trial and error, combined with trying to portray the character’s pain and physical state as written in the script, taking into account how all the different parts of the body would be affected.
The way they developed the Creature’s unique accent was actually quite straightforward, according to the BAFTA nominee. He explained that he watched a scene where Oscar Isaac’s character built the Creature and even adjusted its windpipe. This detail sparked Elordi’s interest in how it would affect the monster’s voice and how it moved.
