Guillermo del Toro recently discussed death with surprising calmness and acceptance while speaking about his film Frankenstein at the Marrakech Film Festival. He often explores themes of life and death in his work, but it appears he personally isn’t afraid of death – and actually welcomes the idea. He even hinted at a specific reason why.
According to Variety, Guillermo del Toro recently offered a surprisingly original perspective on the meaning of death, explaining that he believes:
Many people wonder why they’d want to extend their lives, but I personally welcome death. I see it as a positive thing – a release from all of life’s difficulties. I actually look forward to the day when I can finally say goodbye to all my problems.
No one wants to think about Guillermo del Toro’s passing, but he seems remarkably at peace with the idea. He understands that death is unavoidable, and perhaps accepting this inevitability is his way of living life to the fullest and facing the future without fear.

Guillermo del Toro’s take on the classic story of Frankenstein is a visually beautiful and unique adaptation, a tale of both death and the life that springs from it—a project he’s dreamed of making for half a century.
Instead of the typical scary monster seen in most Frankenstein adaptations, Guillermo del Toro created a beautiful and emotionally resonant version of the story in his Netflix film. After a 50-year wait, his vision proved to be a huge success for both him and viewers.
As a total film buff, I have to say this movie absolutely blew up on Netflix – it stayed at number one globally for weeks, and the response online was incredible. Honestly, it’s a story we’ve seen before, so I was surprised to see it scored an 86% from critics, which is great, but the 94% audience score really tells you how much people loved it. Everyone’s talking about Jacob Elordi’s performance as the Monster – a lot of people are already predicting an Oscar nomination! But it’s more than just him; the film is visually stunning, incredibly emotional, and the whole cast delivers. It’s quickly become one of Guillermo del Toro’s best films, and it’s definitely a contender for my movie of the year.
