I’ve been so hyped for the Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer, and honestly, everyone was buzzing with guesses about what we’d see. It was wild! When the trailer finally dropped, it actually disproved some of our theories, but then it gave us a whole bunch of new things to overthink! With the movie still months away, the speculation is going to keep building, but it sounds like one actor who used to be with Marvel thinks we might be reading way too much into one particular idea.
Fans noticed some unfinished-looking visual effects in the trailer for Spider-Man: No Way Home. It turned out the filmmakers intentionally removed characters digitally to keep plot details secret. Now, a new idea suggests a specific shot in another trailer, for Brand New Day, also had rough effects – this time to hide the appearance of Andrew Garfield as Spider-Man. However, Garfield himself denies that was the case.
Speaking with Capital FM, the actor confessed:
Honestly, this seems like a bit of a stretch. When you say there’s room for more characters, do you just mean the space under Spider-Man? Everyone already appears to be focused on him. Of course, technically there’s room for more characters in any scene, but it doesn’t really seem practical.
He strongly condemned the reporting, calling it a ridiculous and baseless conspiracy theory, and questioned the judgment of those involved.
It seems like this should finally confirm whether Garfield is in the movie. However, the actor cleverly pointed out he never actually denied being in it. He thinks it’s silly to suggest he was removed from a scene, but he isn’t completely ruling out the possibility of an appearance.
Andrew Garfield first played Peter Parker in the 2012 film The Amazing Spider-Man and reprised the role in the 2014 sequel. Before a third movie could be made, Sony and Marvel Studios made an agreement to bring Spider-Man into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, leading to Tom Holland becoming the new Peter Parker. Unlike Tobey Maguire, who starred in three Spider-Man films, Garfield only appeared in two.
Thanks to clever planning and the established lore of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the idea of multiple universes allowed for the return of Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield as their versions of Spider-Man. This also created a chance for classic Spider-Man villains to reappear. It’s still unknown whether Maguire and Garfield will continue to reprise their roles, or if their recent appearances were just a way to remind fans how much they love those versions of the character.
You know, it’s funny – like so many people connected to superhero films, Andrew Garfield spent years flat-out denying he was in No Way Home. And honestly, it makes me wonder if he’s playing the same game again with this new movie, trying to keep things under wraps and let the film itself do the talking. He’s definitely good at dodging questions!
