Forget Deku & All-Might, Bakugo is MHA’s Realest Hero

The anime is currently very popular and is quickly establishing itself as one of the best action-adventure series in recent years. The writing has consistently gotten better, and the show has overcome its earlier pacing problems. Initially, the main character, Deku, wasn’t well-respected due to appearing weak, but he’s undergone significant growth and that’s clearly shown in the latest episode.

Though he was born without any special abilities, he mastered a power he received from another and used it to its full potential. Even after years of being bullied, he remained compassionate, even towards those who hurt him. However, his ideas don’t always translate well into real-world situations, ultimately proving that Bakugo is more deserving of the title of My Hero Academia‘s greatest hero than Deku.

Deku’s Obsession With Saving Villains Can Get People Killed

The long-awaited confrontation between Deku and Tomura finally happens, and it’s an incredibly challenging battle. With All For One defeated, Tomura steps up as the new, overwhelmingly powerful villain, capable of causing massive destruction on his own. What makes Tomura even more terrifying than All For One is his lack of personal motive – he doesn’t fight for any specific goal, making him purely destructive.

Tomura’s actions stem solely from a desire to destroy everything around him. He’s lost all concern for anything else, and his cruelty isn’t driven by any goal or ambition. He simply wants to create widespread devastation, something he believes his friend, Spinner, would admire – highlighting a complete embrace of chaos. This intense focus on destruction makes Tomura a serious threat who needs to be stopped quickly and decisively.

Deku’s plan to deal with Tomura is unusual and potentially puts everyone he’s trying to protect in danger. While Deku believes there’s still good within Tomura and wants to save him, it’s questionable whether that’s worth the risk, especially since even Tomura’s grandmother, Nana Shimura, thinks he’s lost. Deku is a heroic figure who genuinely believes everyone deserves a chance, even his enemies. However, when that enemy has the potential to cause immense harm, Deku’s unwavering idealism starts to feel reckless. At times, his refusal to be practical makes his heroism seem less inspiring and more naive.

It’s clear Deku, as the main character, is destined to win, and he’ll do so by staying true to himself. However, his extreme efforts to save Tomura feel unrealistic and lessen the story’s emotional weight. Bakugo, on the other hand, comes across as a more grounded and believable hero, willing to make difficult decisions to achieve his goals.

Bakugo’s Commitment Helps Him Act When Others Can’t

Bakugo began as a harsh and arrogant character, overly confident in his abilities and often bullying Deku. He was so focused on his own power that he strayed from the path of a true hero. Thankfully, he matured significantly, acknowledged his mistakes, and refused to dwell on not being chosen as All Might’s successor. Instead, he dedicated himself to mastering his own skills and developed effective strategies, allowing him to defeat even formidable villains like All For One.

This character’s approach and values sharply contrast with Deku’s. They’re much more direct and take charge, which initially led some to believe they might be a villain instead of a hero. Despite not fitting the traditional hero mold, they consistently achieve success. Unlike Deku, who often considers the morality of his opponents, this character quickly confronts villains without questioning if they can be redeemed.

Bakugo’s determination allowed him to fight All For One even when he was nearly unconscious. He realized he’d done enough to stop the villain from causing further damage, despite still being in a weakened state. But he didn’t let up. Even with severe injuries, Bakugo used every ounce of strength – even bracing against the final blow with his teeth – to ensure All For One was truly defeated before finally collapsing. This single act firmly establishes Bakugo as a genuine hero, perhaps even more so than Deku, and in many ways, a truly exceptional one.
