FNAF 2 Movie’s Charlotte Emily Has 1 Major Change from the Games

Charlotte Emily appears in the live-action movie Five Nights at Freddy’s 2, though her portrayal differs slightly from the video game version. This Blumhouse sequel expands on the first film’s story, moving the action to the original Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria and introducing a host of new, both Withered and Toy, animatronic characters. The movie adapts Scott Cawthon’s second FNAF game and also brings the important character of Charlotte to life.

As a big fan of the Five Nights at Freddy’s games, I was really excited to see the movie! It’s directed by Emma Tammi and stars Josh Hutcherson as Mike Schmidt, with Elizabeth Lail playing Vanessa, Piper Rubio as Abby, and Matthew Lillard taking on the role of William Afton. It finally hit theaters on December 5, 2025, and I couldn’t wait to check it out!

Who Is Charlotte In FNAF 2 Movie?

Charlotte, portrayed by Audrey Lynn-Marie, is a lonely young girl who appears at the beginning of Five Nights at Freddy’s 2. She’s fascinated with the Marionette puppet at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria, and some kids even call it her “spirit parent.” Young Vanessa Afton is one of the few friends Charlotte has there. Sadly, Charlotte dies in a violent incident at the Pizzeria, which ultimately causes it to close.

Twenty years have passed, and Charlotte’s ghost now controls a puppet inside the pizzeria. She’s held back only by a special music box her father, Henry Emily, created. When Lisa and her friends, the Spectral Scoopers, are allowed inside, Charlotte is finally released. She takes over Lisa’s body and breaks free, ready to carry out her revenge plan.

I’ve always found it interesting how different the Charlotte we see in the games is from the Charlotte in FNAF 2. In the second game, she’s really driven by revenge. She doesn’t just want things to stop, she actively tries to get back at those she feels wronged her by unleashing the other animatronics and telling them to go after any adults. It’s a much darker side to her character, honestly.

And Who Is Charlotte Emily In Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 Game?

Charlotte Emily is based on the character of the same name from the second Five Nights at Freddy’s game. She’s the daughter of Henry, who worked with William Afton to create the first animatronics. This family connection links her to the story’s villain from the beginning.

Charlotte is the ghost that possesses the puppet in the second game, and she acts as one of the game’s villains. As long as the player keeps the music box wound, the puppet will stay trapped inside its gift box.

Within the backstory of the animatronic characters, the Marionette is depicted as a guide, and in the games, Charlotte fulfills a similar role by helping the spirits of deceased children move into new animatronic bodies.

How Did Charlotte Die In FNAF 2 Movie Vs. Game?

There are some differences between how Charlotte dies in the FNAF 2 movie and the game. In the game, William Afton kills Charlotte after she’s locked outside the pizzeria, leading fans to believe she might have been his first victim. She’s discovered by the Puppet, but because of the rain, the Puppet’s systems don’t work, and Charlotte’s spirit ends up possessing it.

In the second Five Nights at Freddy’s movie, Charlotte sees William Afton, disguised as Springtrap, abduct a child inside the pizzeria. When the adults nearby ignore her pleas for help, Charlotte bravely decides to search the pizzeria’s hallways on her own to rescue the boy.

Charlotte manages to save the boy Afton poisoned, but as she carries him away, Afton attacks and stabs her, leaving her seriously wounded on stage. She falls through a hole in the floor and lands with the Marionette, and her soul enters the puppet’s body.

The game and movies show different sides of Charlotte. In the game, she’s presented as a sweet and giving girl. While the movies start with her being kind, as the story of FNAF 2 progresses twenty years later, she becomes driven by revenge. She wants to punish the adults she feels were responsible for what happened to her.
