The Bride! is a disappointment after a recent marriage announcement from Warner Bros.
The upcoming film The Bride!, a new take on Bride of Frankenstein with Jessie Buckley and Christian Bale, will be the first Warner Bros. movie released after Paramount Skydance unexpectedly won the bid to buy the studio in late February. Although the merger between Warner Bros. and Paramount Skydance hasn’t been finalized yet, it’s predicted to happen within the next year and a half.
I’m really disappointed to hear that The Bride! isn’t doing well at the box office. Early numbers, according to Variety, suggest it’ll only make about $13.6 million worldwide this weekend. Here in the US, it’s looking at around $7.3 million, which puts it at number three behind Scream 7 and Pixar’s Hoppers. It’s made another $6.3 million internationally, but honestly, that’s not a great start for a movie I was really hoping would succeed.
With a production cost of $90 million and $50 million spent on advertising, the film The Bride! is projected to lose a significant amount of money—potentially tens of millions—due to its weak opening weekend. Because theaters keep half the ticket revenue, the movie needs to earn around $280 million just to cover its costs. This is over 20 times more than it’s expected to make worldwide during its initial release.
Okay, so as a movie fan, I was surprised to see that The Bride! actually broke Warner Bros.’ winning streak. They’d had nine movies in a row open at number one, which is a huge deal! But this one… it didn’t quite hit. It was projected to make around $10 to $15 million, but it ended up doing even less than that. Pixar’s Hoppers totally crushed it, opening with a fantastic $45 million – clearly, audiences were more excited about the bugs!
It’s still unclear how much money Warner Bros. will lose on the new film. But it doesn’t seem likely to do well over time. Reviews for The Bride! have been very mixed, giving it a 59% rating on Rotten Tomatoes – just enough to be considered a ‘Rotten’ film.
The movie The Bride! received a C+ rating from CinemaScore, which suggests it probably won’t generate buzz among viewers, especially given its weak opening weekend attendance.
Whether Warner Bros. can build on the success of The Bride! with another box office hit remains to be seen. Their next film, the horror-comedy They Will Kill You, is expected to open around $10 million, but it will compete with the already popular films Project Hail Mary and Ready or Not 2: Here I Come.
Despite the recent underwhelming performance of The Bride!, Warner Bros. is expected to have another hit movie eventually. Their plans for 2026 are a bit unpredictable, featuring sure bets like Supergirl as well as riskier projects like Lee Cronin’s The Mummy and Coyote vs. Acme. However, they’re likely to finish the year on a high note with the release of Dune: Part Three.
