2006 is a significant year for The Transformers franchise, marking the 40th anniversary of The Transformers: The Movie. To celebrate, several new toys are being released, including a Decepticon character first seen in the original animated film.
The Transformers Studio Series 86 MTMTE Collection features Scourge, a Decepticon from the original Generation 1. This release is a reissue of a previously available figure, capturing Scourge’s look from the classic cartoon. The packaging artwork highlights his iconic rebirth in the movie, orchestrated by the Chaos Bringer. Fans will soon be able to pre-order this figure and add the leader of the Sweeps to their Transformers collection.
Scourge’s Original Cinematic Design Returns With New Hasbro Transformers Studio Series Release

The new Transformers Studio Series 86 Scourge figure from Hasbro is essentially a re-release of an older Transformers Studio Series toy. This means the figure’s design is based on Scourge’s original appearance in the 1986 movie. Artist Floro Dery initially created this design, though it was slightly altered before the film’s release.
The toy’s final details really bring Scourge’s menacing look to life. In robot form, he features metallic details resembling facial hair, bat-like wings, and long, clawed fingers with pink tips, giving him a witch-like appearance. This design echoes that of his fellow Decepticon, Cyclonus, who had a clearly demonic look. Scourge comes with a blaster that he can hold in robot mode, and a laser effect that can be attached to the top of his head when transformed into his vehicle form. The blaster itself attaches to the side of the vehicle.
As the leader of the Sweeps, Scourge transforms into a flying, alien hovercraft – a design choice that fits the retro “1950s space age” look of the characters in the movie, as envisioned by designer Floro Dery. A panel can cover his face when he’s in vehicle mode, but it can also be opened to recreate moments from the film and the third season of The Transformers. In the movie, Scourge was rebuilt by the villain Unicron using parts from the Decepticon Seeker Thundercracker, while Skywarp was reborn as Cyclonus, and a duplicate of Cyclonus was created as Armada.
The Transformers Studio Series 86 Scourge figure, part of the MTMTE Collection, will likely be updated around 2026 to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the original movie. Pre-orders are expected to begin next week. As a Voyager Class figure, it’s anticipated to cost around $40, similar to other figures in this line.
