Mark Ruffalo is incredibly busy! Besides starring in the upcoming movie Now You See Me: Now You Don’t in 2025, he recently finished the HBO crime drama Task, and there are reports he’ll be in the next Spider-Man film, Brand New Day. Before that, he’ll appear alongside Chris Hemsworth (a fellow Avengers star), Halle Berry (known for X-Men), and Barry Keoghan (who played a possible Joker in The Batman).
Amazon MGM’s new movie, Crime 101, just released its first trailer. We got a sneak peek six months ago at CinemaCon, but now everyone can see it. The film appears to be inspired by Michael Mann’s Heat, with Mark Ruffalo and Chris Hemsworth taking on roles similar to those played by Al Pacino and Robert De Niro. Hemsworth plays a skilled thief trying to execute a large heist while under intense scrutiny.
While not a direct match, the premise is fairly straightforward. The film Crime 101, set in Los Angeles, follows Davis, a clever jewel thief played by the actor known for Thor. His signature move is planning complex heists near locations along the 101 freeway – hence the title, and not a class on criminal justice! Davis operates by a strict personal code and is tempted by one final, multi-million dollar job. He unexpectedly teams up with Sarah, an insurance broker played by Halle Berry, who becomes his accomplice.

Detective Lou Lubesnik, played by Mark Ruffalo, is investigating a series of robberies. As he digs deeper, Davis and Sarah move closer to pulling off their own major crime, blurring the lines between law enforcement and criminals. It’s a suspenseful situation, though it avoids over-the-top action – no massive explosions or Hulk-like rampages here.
Okay, it’s not quite a rehash of Heat, but you can definitely see the same elements at play, and honestly, I’m really excited to see where this goes. Plus, the three leads are fantastic, and they’re surrounded by an amazing cast – check out the full list below!

Directed by Bart Layton, known for The Imposter, and co-written with Academy Award winner Peter Straughton (Conclave), Crime 101 is based on the novella of the same name by Don Winslow.
Michael Mann is currently working on the eagerly awaited sequel to Heat, potentially featuring Leonardo DiCaprio. However, we’ll be able to watch Crime 101 much sooner than that film’s release.
The movie Crime 101 will be released in theaters on February 13, 2026, and will later be available to stream for Amazon Prime subscribers.
