First Look at Noah Centineo’s ‘Rambo’ Film Revealed as Production Begins

Production on the new Rambo movie has started in Thailand, and fans are getting their first glimpse of the action-packed film. The studio shared the first poster on Thursday, January 29, along with comments from director Jalmari Helander about the importance of the Rambo series to him.

Helander, the director of Sisu: Road to Revenge, recently shared that seeing First Blood at age eleven was a pivotal moment for him. He explained in a post on X that the film Rambo wasn’t just entertainment – it profoundly impacted him and ultimately inspired his career path towards filmmaking.

We’re starting work on a new film that tells the story of John Rambo’s origins. This movie will show a vulnerable, authentic Rambo – a story of survival, determination, and the loss of innocence. We’re excited and humbled to continue his story, honoring the character and his history while showing audiences how his journey began.

‘John Rambo’ Bridges the Gap Between ‘New’ and ‘Existing Fans’ of ‘Rambo’

The first Rambo movie, First Blood, starring Sylvester Stallone, premiered on October 22, 1982. Now, over 40 years later, a new project featuring John Rambo could unite longtime fans with a new audience. According to Erin Westerman, president of the Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, this project will delve into Rambo’s backstory, his values, and deliver exciting action sequences.

The newest film in the series will feature Noah Centineo (known for Black Adam), Yao (from Sinners), Quincy Isaiah (Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty), Jefferson White (Yellowstone), Jason Tobin (F9: The Fast Saga), and Tayme Thapthimthong (The White Lotus).

I’m really excited about Helander and Centineo working together! The producers, Kevin King Templeton and Les Weldon, explained that Jalmari is incredibly focused and disciplined in his approach to the film. And Noah isn’t just physically committed to the role – he truly gets the character, understanding what makes him tick and what he believes in. They seem like an amazing duo, and I think they’ll bring something really special to the movie.

Producer Angela Russo-Otstot described the prequel as a special chance to explore a beloved character, and expressed her excitement about Noah and Jalmari bringing the story to life.

The early photos suggest that John Rambo will be a significant and memorable addition to this well-loved series.

Although the specific storyline is still mostly a secret, producer Kevin Helander mentioned last year that this new Rambo film will begin with a more optimistic and peaceful setting compared to previous installments.

He explained to GamesRadar+ that this story is a fresh start for Rambo. It shows him at a good point in his life – happy and young – because it’s an origin story. The game explores how he became the troubled man we know from First Blood, so it’s a very different take on the character.
