One regular actor from the production of ‘Lanterns’, who will likely embody the primary villain in the series, just posted a picture on set for the HBO series. The ‘Lanterns’ project, which is well underway as part of James Gunn’s DC Universe, is anticipated to debut in 2026. Few details have been disclosed about the plot of the show, but Gunn did recently reveal that one specific Green Lantern will be the central character.

Actor Paul Ben-Victor, who’s new to DCU, recently posted a picture on set from Lanterns, showcasing him undergoing a full-body scan for his role in the forthcoming HBO (and HBO Max) series. The image only showed the actor amidst a room filled with cameras and bright lights, all geared towards capturing his body data for VFX purposes.

Ben-Victor, fresh from his role in Season 5 of The Chosen, posted a picture of himself on Instagram with the caption, “‘Lights on’“, keeping tight-lipped about his upcoming part in the enigmatic series, Lanterns.

In April 2025, it was initially announced that Ben-Victor joined the cast of Lanterns, although the specific role he’ll be playing has yet to be disclosed. For now, he is operating under the codename “Antaan,” leading some to speculate that he might embody the character Atrocitus in the upcoming production.

For your information, when it was revealed that Ben-Victor joined the Lanterns team as per Deadline’s announcement, they also disclosed that his character would be portrayed as an alien with a mission to reveal the truth and seek retribution against those who harmed his people.

Ben-Victor’s character will portray Antaan, an alien driven by a relentless desire for truth and vengeance against those who harmed his kind. Fueled by intense and unyielding anger towards the law, he is resolute in meting out justice according to his personal standards.

The actor’s recent photograph seems to lend credence to the whispers that he may portray Atrocitus, given that this role might require heavy use of computer-generated imagery (CGI).

In this rendition, the characters Aaron Pierre and Kyle Chandler portray Green Lanterns John Stewart and Hal Jordan respectively, alongside Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, who made a notable appearance in Superman. Together, they embark on an investigation into a string of murders that have occurred across America.

Is Paul Ben-Victor Playing Atrocitus?

It’s worth noting that Paul Ben-Victor’s character seems to share some striking resemblances with Atrocitus’s background from the DC comic books.

As a point of reference, Atrocitus tragically bore the loss of his spouse and children, being among just five other entities in the Space Sector 666 who lived on after a brutal assault carried out by the Manhunters.

In a vow fueled by bitter enmity, Atros – later known as Atrocitus – declared his intent to annihilate the Guardians of the Universe and those linked to them. Over time, Atrocitus established the Red Lantern Corps and crafted power rings imbued with red energy. The Red Lantern Corps, founded on the basis of unfathomable hatred, mirrored the seething rage that burned within Atrocitus and every other recruit who followed him.

If Ben-Victor indeed takes on the role of Atrocitus, it may pave the way for storylines similar to Blackest Night to unfold within the DC Universe. Moreover, it would potentially offer a chance to delve deeper into various Lantern Corps in live-action settings.
