Fans are curious about a recent change in the voice cast for Season 2 of Fionna and Cake: Donald Glover is no longer playing Marshall Lee. The show, which takes place in the world of Adventure Time, follows Fionna and Cake—alternate versions of Finn and Jake—on a big, reality-bending adventure.
An update for the show *Fionna and Cake* announced a change in voice actors for Season 2. Kris Kollins will now voice the character Marshall Lee, replacing Donald Glover who played the role in Season 1. Kollins shared the news on his Instagram page.
Kollins excitedly announced he’s joining season two of *Adventure Time: Fionna and Cake* as the voice of Marshall Lee. He said he’ll do his best to deliver a great performance and honor Donald Glover’s previous work as the character.
I’m thrilled to share that I’ll be voicing Marshall Lee in Season 2 of ‘Adventure Time: Fionna and Cake’! This show has been a favorite of mine since 2010, so it’s a real honor to be involved. I’m so grateful to Kristi and everyone who believed in me for this role, and to Donald Glover for originally bringing Marshall Lee to life. I’ll do my best to make him shine. Thank you, and I’m incredibly thankful for this opportunity.
Donald Glover voiced Marceline the Vampire Queen in the first season of *Fionna and Cake*, appearing with actors like Madeleine Martin, Roz Ryan, and Tom Kenny. But according to creator Ryan Kollins, Glover won’t be back for the new episodes. Season 2 of *Fionna and Cake* will premiere on HBO Max on Thursday, October 23rd.
Why Did Donald Glover Leave Fionna and Cake?
Many fans will be surprised to learn that Donald Glover won’t be returning to voice Marshall Lee in the second season of *Fionna and Cake*.
Season 2 is promising to be even more impressive than the first, especially with the addition of popular characters from *Adventure Time*. It’s disappointing that we won’t see Glover reprise his role in this expanded season.
It appears the actor who previously played a main role in *Fionna and Cake* had a valid reason for departing the animated series. Work on Season 2 started around the middle of last year, with voice actors beginning their recordings in July.
Around the same period, Glover publicly shared that he was facing health issues. This led him to cancel his ongoing world tour and take a break from public life. He explained to The Los Angeles Times after the cancellation that he needed time to recover.
He probably had to stop voicing Marshall in *Fionna and Cake* because he was prioritizing his health and well-being over his work, including TV, music, and other projects.
Okay, so the actor—Childish Gambino—had a surgery, but he’s been pretty private about what actually led to it. The good news is he’s back at work! But unfortunately, his recovery took a bit longer than expected, which means Season 2 is going to be delayed. It’s great to see him doing better, even if it means we have to wait a little longer for new content.
