The much-anticipated remake may not happen after all, as recent reports suggest Square Enix has cancelled the project.

Final Fantasy 9 is the last remaining unannounced game from a large list discovered in a 2021 data leak of NVIDIA GeForce Now. The leak revealed many titles, and most have since been officially confirmed – including remakes of Final Fantasy Tactics and Chrono Cross, and even Kingdom Hearts 4. Final Fantasy 9 is the only title from that list that hasn’t been formally announced yet.

Lots of rumors suggest there are problems developing the remake of *Final Fantasy 9*, which might be why Square Enix hasn’t officially announced it yet.
