During a chat at Universal Studios’ Halloween Horror Nights, Álvarez shared that although the screenplay for Alien: Romulus 2 has been finalized, he won’t be the one behind the camera directing the upcoming sequel.

Álvarez has completed the script for Romulus’ sequel, but he won’t be directing this time. Instead, he plans to team up with Ridley Scott to produce it. They are currently looking for a fresh director to take over and bring their vision to life.

Typically, filmmakers arrive, you produce one movie, and then hand it off to the next creator. However, since we started with Romulus, we have a deep affection for the storyline and desire to carry it forward. We cherish this tale, and now our goal is to find a director who’s equally passionate about driving it home aggressively.

Instead of confirming his role as director for Alien: Romulus 2, Álvarez expressed his preference for focusing on “a project close to our hearts” that he and his writing partner have been developing for some time. He added, “We believe now is the perfect moment to delve into an original concept, but I’m afraid I can’t share any details with you.

Currently, the specifics about the plot for Alien: Romulus 2 are being kept secret. As of now, there’s no announced release date from 20th Century Studios.
