Be warned, this article contains spoilers for FBI season 8, episode 8! Jeremy Sisto, who plays Jubal on FBI, has shared his ideas for where his character’s storyline could go in season 9 and beyond. Jubal has been a key part of the show since it started, managing the team’s fusion center and leading investigations. His character has grown significantly, making him a vital member of the core team.
Jeremy Sisto recently shared some thoughts on what’s next for his character, Jubal Valentine, in season 9 of FBI. In an interview with ScreenRant, he suggested delving deeper into Jubal’s family life, especially his relationship with his daughter. He also noted that the show gives writers the opportunity to infuse their own experiences into the characters. Here’s what Sisto had to say:
You’ve played this character for eight seasons, and the show is coming back for a ninth. Is there anything you’d still like to see happen with the character that hasn’t been covered yet?
Jeremy Sisto mentioned there’s a lot more to explore with his character, Jubal. He feels Jubal’s daughter is underutilized and could add to the story. A significant part of what drives Jubal is his struggle to balance the demands of his job with being a good dad, which Sisto believes is a compelling storyline.
I’m really flexible and that’s essential for this kind of show. I encourage the writers to draw from their own lives when creating storylines. I can always tell when they do, and that makes my job much easier and more rewarding. I don’t have a preference for any particular plot, but I love seeing writers put their heart into their work—that’s what motivates me.
In the eighth season of FBI, Jubal remains a key player, handling the team’s regular cases as Special Agent in Charge and offering crucial support to Maggie and OA. The show continues to explore his life outside of work, showing his personal challenges alongside his professional duties.
Jubal struggled with alcoholism, having maintained ten years of sobriety until concerns about his son, Tyler, who was diagnosed with leukemia, caused a relapse. Thankfully, Tyler recovered, which motivated Jubal to return to Alcoholics Anonymous. The actor also hopes the show will explore his character’s relationship with his daughter, Abigail, more fully.

Now that FBI season 9 is happening, and Julian McMahon is expected to return as Jubal Valentine, there’s a great chance we’ll learn even more about his character. The show could delve deeper into both his personal life and cases that are particularly meaningful to him, especially considering his role as a father who wants to keep his children safe.
He might also become involved with the FBI’s new series, which is a spin-off focusing on a combined task force with the CIA. Although connections between this new show and the current one haven’t been officially announced yet, it’s a potential way to feature his character in more shows within this franchise.
As a fan, I’m really excited about where they could take Jeremy Sisto’s character on FBI. He seems totally open to anything, and I’m hoping we get to learn a lot more about Jubal’s family. It sounds like the writers have a ton of possibilities, and they’re even willing to draw inspiration from real life to make his storylines even more interesting and unpredictable. Honestly, the potential feels huge!
FBI season 8’s two-part Fall finale airs tonight, Monday, December 15, at 8 p.m. ET on CBS.
