The eleventh Fast & Furious movie is officially in the works. Now that the release date has been announced, Donna Langley, head of NBCUniversal Entertainment, is discussing what’s next for the series.
In a recent interview, Langley talked about the upcoming Fast Forever movie. When asked about possible surprise appearances by familiar faces, she remained tight-lipped, refusing to reveal any spoilers. “We’re keeping everything a secret!” she said.
Langley jokingly suggested that fans should follow Vin Diesel for any major updates about the movie, implying he’s the most likely to share them. She also confirmed that the next installment will return to the series’ original style, something Diesel had already hinted at.
Langley emphasized that the franchise began in Los Angeles and is deeply connected to the city’s car culture. He described the movie as a celebration of both that culture and Los Angeles itself.
As a film buff, I was really excited to hear that part of the story is set in Los Angeles! They’re still figuring out the logistics, but they’re hoping to actually film some of it here in LA and California, which is fantastic. It sounds like a lot of people in the industry are really trying to boost film production back home, and I’m all for it!
Fast & Furious Will Return to What Made the Franchise Great
Over ten movies, the series has drifted far from its beginnings focused on street racing and crime. What started as a story about personal conflicts quickly grew into much larger, more explosive plots involving international robberies and worldwide terrorism.
The people behind the new Fast and Furious movie seem to know what fans are looking for. After focusing on spies and terrorists, Fast and Furious 11 – officially titled Fast Forever – will go back to the simpler, more action-packed style of the earlier films.
In April 2024, I discussed the direction of what was then called Fast X: Part 2 (now Fast Forever), and mentioned that fans have expressed a desire to return to the series’ roots – focusing more on street racing and less on the more outlandish, space-based storylines.
Tyrese says the team is working hard to improve the new movie, focusing on what fans want to see. He believes they’re making significant changes, especially with the street racing elements, to ensure audiences have a great experience. They’re really trying to get everything right and deliver a film fans will enjoy.
Fast Forever is currently slated to arrive in theaters on Mar. 17, 2028.
