‘Far Cry’ TV Series Coming From ‘Alien: Earth’ Creator

Noah Hawley, the filmmaker behind the recent Alien: Earth TV series, is expanding his work to the world of video games. He’s developing an anthology series based on the Far Cry franchise for FX. Joining him is Rob McElhenney, the creator and star of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, who will also star in this new series. Hawley is known for his successful TV adaptations of Fargo and the Marvel character Legion.

Hawley shared in a statement about the project:

One of the things I really enjoy about the Far Cry games is that each one feels like a standalone story, similar to how each season of Fargo tells a different version of the same kind of tale. It’s always been a goal of mine to create a large-scale action series that can evolve over time, while still delving into what it means to be human through a wild and unpredictable perspective. I’m thrilled to be working with Rob to bring our combined creative vision – a bit edgy and always aiming high – to life on screen.

Mac added of the series:

Working with Noah Hawley has been a long-held dream come true. Ubisoft has been incredibly supportive, giving us the opportunity to adapt one of the most beloved video game worlds of all time. Throughout this process, my team at FX has consistently encouraged and supported me, which means a lot.

What Is ‘Far Cry’ About?

FX

The first Far Cry game came out in 2004, and since then, there have been five main sequels and several spin-off titles. Each game tells a completely different story, but they all share a few things in common: they’re first-person shooters where the player character is stranded in a dangerous, isolated location and must fight to escape. This standalone approach really suits the spirit of the series.

Nick Grad, President, FX Entertainment, shared of the project:

FX has enjoyed incredibly successful collaborations with Rob Mac and Noah Hawley, creating six shows with a total of 32 seasons. We’re thrilled they’re joining forces again for the Far Cry series, and we’re confident they’ll deliver a unique, captivating, and highly entertaining story. We also extend our gratitude to Ubisoft for allowing us to bring this popular franchise to life.

Fans of Far Cry will be happy to hear this news, as past efforts to turn the game into a show haven’t been well-received. However, those excited about Alien: Earth might be a little disappointed. It’s currently unknown how much progress has been made on the Far Cry adaptation, but with Noah Hawley working on both FX shows, Alien: Earth‘s Season 2 will likely be affected in some way.

We don’t yet know when the next Far Cry game or the second season of Alien: Earth will be released.
