Fantasy Rom-Com Eternity Officially Sets Apple TV Release Date

It’s still unclear what the future holds for Scarlett Witch in the Marvel Cinematic Universe following the events of the 2022 film, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Elizabeth Olsen has expressed interest in returning to the role, but she’s also been working on other projects, including a successful film slated for release in 2025.

I was really excited when Eternity premiered at TIFF back in September 2025, and thankfully, it lived up to the hype! Critics seemed to enjoy it, and it actually did well in theaters when it came out in late November. It kept that momentum going with digital sales, too. Now, I’m even more thrilled – Apple TV just announced it’s coming to the platform on February 13th! Definitely adding that to my watch list.

As Valentine’s Day approaches, streaming services are really leaning into romantic comedies, and this new release is a clever addition. It’s a fantasy film that really makes you think – if love continues after we’re gone, who will you be with?

Throughout its four seasons, The Good Place explored big questions about life and the afterlife. The show centers around ordinary people who unexpectedly end up in a seemingly perfect afterlife and are matched with their supposed soulmates.

Elizabeth Olsen’s film, Eternity, presents a woman named Joan with a difficult decision after she dies. She has one week to choose whether to spend the afterlife with her husband or with her first love, who passed away years ago and has been waiting for her.

The film stars Elizabeth Olsen and Callum Turner as Joan’s husband and first love, respectively. John Early, Olga Merediz, and Da’Vine Joy Randolph also appear in the cast. David Freyne directed the movie, working from a screenplay he co-wrote with Pat Cunnane.

Eternity Was a Success

The film Eternity was well-received, earning a ‘Certified Fresh’ rating with 77% approval from critics and an impressive 90% from audiences. Reviewers and viewers alike particularly enjoyed its unique and inventive idea, as well as the actors’ performances.

Following positive reviews, Eternity proved to be a financial success, earning $34.9 million globally on a $12 million production budget, as reported by Box Office Mojo.

Let’s talk about the recognition Eternity has been getting. It was up for Best Comedy at the Critics’ Choice Movie Awards, and Da’Vine Joy Randolph really stood out – she snagged Best Comedic Performance from the San Diego Film Critics Society and was honored as a guest at the Savannah Film Festival. I’m thrilled to see her work getting the attention it deserves!

A24 released the film as part of its ongoing deal with Apple Studios, which co-produced the fantasy romantic comedy with Star Thrower Entertainment.

With Apple TV not planning any new releases soon, many believe the film Eternity will take the top spot from F1, the exciting and Oscar-nominated movie starring Brad Pitt, which has been performing well.

Eternity debuts on Apple TV on Feb. 13.
