Fantastic Four: First Steps Director Reveals Who Directed Post-Credits & When

In my perspective as a movie reviewer, Matt Shakman, the mastermind behind “The Fantastic Four: First Steps,” has spilled the beans about who was at the helm for the post-credits scene of this much-awaited Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) feature. These scenes carry significant weight within the MCU, as they subtly hint at future installments in the franchise.

Like Thunderbolts*, Fantastic Four’s post-credits scene wasn’t directed by its director

Matt Shakman recently shared in an interview with ComicBook that he wasn’t the one responsible for directing the post-credits scene in The Fantastic Four: First Steps. Much like Thunderbolts, it was Joe and Anthony Russo who filmed the post-credits scene for First Steps during their work on Avengers: Doomsday. Shakman also stated that he was fine with the Russo Brothers taking charge of his movie’s characters following him.

*Thunderbolts refers to another Marvel project directed by the Russo Brothers, which is not yet released.

Absolutely not, and even more so when I’m passing it on to the Russo brothers, who are incredible professionals and genuinely kind individuals,” Shakman expressed. He disclosed that the Russo brothers had a significant role in the production of First Steps, being highly involved in its making.

The director explained that they desired to observe our filming locations and see how the scenes were developing, along with getting acquainted with these characters, so they could handle them appropriately in future projects. It’s also worth mentioning that they are very dedicated to preserving these characters’ integrity.

Shakman likened directing Marvel films to a “relay race.” He explained, “You take the baton, run as fast and hard as you can for your part of the race, then hand it over. I handed it over to Joe and Anthony, and now they’re sprinting forward, which is fantastic.

In April 2025, work started on a film titled “Doomsday.” The Russos are directing this movie together with its sequel, “Avengers: Secret Wars.” Members from the original cast of “First Day” will be featured in “Doomsday,” including actors playing the four superheroes who make up the named group.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps arrives in US theaters on July 25, 2025.
