The second season of NBC’s medical drama, featuring Zachary Quinto as a brilliant neurologist, is currently airing. The show, which draws inspiration from the life and work of neurologist Oliver Sacks, originally debuted in September 2024.
In the series “The Witness,” social worker Michelle, portrayed by Stacey Farber, speaks with Wolf and other doctors about Adam, a man with severe autism who has been accused of a crime. She explains, “His name is Adam, and he has significant challenges with autism. I haven’t been able to learn much yet, as I was only assigned to his case a few hours ago when the police brought him in for questioning.”
Michelle explained that Gloria, the woman who was pushed onto the subway tracks, was cared for by Adam. Wolf asked if police suspected Adam of being the one who pushed her. Michelle said they didn’t have video footage yet, but witnesses reported that Adam and Gloria were the only people on the platform, making Adam the main suspect.
Michelle is concerned because Adam doesn’t speak, and she feels the legal system isn’t set up to help someone like him. She worries he won’t be able to defend himself if charged with a crime. She managed to get the police to take Adam to the hospital for a check-up, and she’s now anxious about what will happen when he potentially returns to the police station.

The show tackles some difficult and unusual situations within a challenging industry, but ultimately it’s a hopeful and inspiring story. I appreciate feeling positive after watching something, and this show delivers that. It’s an emotional journey that’s both touching and uplifting, with a common thread of kindness connecting the characters. It promotes compassion and suggests that if more people embraced that way of life, the world would be a better place.
