Everybody Loves Raymond Sets Reunion Date 20 Years Later

We, as fans, have been asking for a revival for years! While the cast has said a full revival isn’t going to happen, they *have* agreed to do a reunion special, which is amazing! I’m so excited to see everyone back together. It’s not quite what we hoped for, but it’s the next best thing, and I’ll definitely be tuning in. This reunion is going to be great!

According to reports, CBS will air a 90-minute Everybody Loves Raymond: 30th Anniversary Special in November. Ray Romano and the show’s creator, Phil Rosenthal, will host the special, which will be filmed on a set designed to look exactly like the Barone family’s living room. The special is being produced by Fulwell Entertainment, the company behind Friends: The Reunion.

The official description of the Everybody Loves Raymond: 30th Anniversary Special says it will feature “honest and open talks with the stars Brad Garrett, Patricia Heaton, Monica Horan, Madylin Sweeten, and Sullivan Sweeten.” It will also include previously unseen bloopers and the cast sharing how they became one of the most popular families on American television.

The special will include a touching remembrance of Doris Roberts and Peter Boyle, who became beloved by fans for their memorable performances as Marie and Frank Barone. They were the heart of the show. Cast members, the crew, and guest stars will share warm and personal stories about how this wonderful pair changed the way we see overbearing mothers-in-law and laid-back dads, turning them into the cherished foundation of the Barone family.

First aired on CBS in 1996, the show continued for nine seasons. It followed the everyday life of Ray Barone (played by Romano), a sports writer, as he balanced his career with his family – his wife Debra (Patricia Heaton), their three kids, and his parents, Marie (Doris Roberts) and Frank (Peter Boyle), who lived nearby. The series also included Ray’s brother, Robert (Brad Garrett), and Robert’s wife, Amy (Monica Horan).

Ray Romano Fought To Change The Sitcom’s Name

The show received a lot of positive feedback for how truthfully it depicted family life. It earned 15 Primetime Emmy Awards, with the award for Outstanding Comedy Series being among them. Interestingly, several other titles were considered, such as “That Raymond Guy,” “Concerning Raymond,” and “Um, Raymond.” Tom Caltabiano, the series’ executive producer, once mentioned that Ray was very unhappy with the name.

Ray is a down-to-earth person, and he worried about how the show would be received, saying, ‘If Everybody Loves Ray isn’t good, what will people say? Every journalist will question whether everyone *really* loves Ray,'” he explained. According to Caltabiano, the CBS president originally agreed to a title change if the show did well. However, once it became popular, he reversed his decision, stating, ‘Well, we can’t change it now!

Even though many people have asked for a continuation of the series, Romano had previously said it wouldn’t happen. He explained, “The reality is: Peter (Boyle) and Doris (Roberts), and one of the children, are no longer with us. We are all deeply saddened by their loss. They were such an important part of the show and its chemistry.” Heaton agreed, adding, “Trying to recreate the show without the cast members we’ve lost would not do it justice and would be a disrespect to the original series.” It would simply not be the same.

Everybody Loves Raymond: 30th Anniversary Special will air on CBS on November 24th at 8 p.m. You’ll also be able to watch it on Paramount+.
