The show will end with Season 4, which is expected to arrive in 2027. Known for its willingness to eliminate characters, the series keeps viewers guessing about who will make it. While some characters have navigated both past and present storylines, their ultimate fates are still uncertain. The story follows a high school soccer team, the Yellowjackets, after a plane crash leaves them stranded in the Canadian wilderness. They struggled to survive for a year and nine months, and were forced to make desperate choices along the way. The series explores both their fight for survival in the past and the lingering consequences they face in the present.
As a total movie and TV junkie, I’ve been completely hooked by Yellowjackets. What’s really clever is how they cut between the past and present. We’re seeing all this intense drama unfold now because whatever messed with those girls in the woods is still affecting them. And honestly, it’s a relief to know they all made it back – we see they get home safe. But don’t get too comfortable! The show makes it clear just surviving the wilderness wasn’t enough. Some of them have already died as adults, and in pretty strange ways, so nobody’s truly safe yet.
Melissa Appeared in the Third Season of Yellowjackets as an Adult
For the first two seasons of Yellowjackets, Melissa was a minor character. However, Season 3 significantly expanded her role. The show led viewers to believe all the other characters had died, making Melissa’s unexpected survival—even for Shauna—a major twist.
Previously, things were already difficult. More recently, the connection between Shauna and Melissa became even more complex when it was revealed that Melissa had pretended to die by staging a fake suicide, leading everyone to believe she was gone.
Shauna was shocked to discover Melissa wasn’t dead, but living under a new name and married to Hannah’s daughter, Alex. Despite appearing stable, Melissa revealed her wild side by killing Van in the final episode of the third season.
Adult Travis Martinez Dies at the Beginning of the Show
Travis wasn’t a player on the Yellowjackets soccer team, but he was with them when their plane crashed because he was the coach’s son. He and his younger brother, Javi, formed a connection with the team, despite some disagreements. While Javi didn’t make it, Travis survived the 19 months it took for the group to be rescued.
I always thought he and Natalie had something special, but things took a dark turn. It’s just unbelievable – he actually survived a plane crash and being lost in the wilderness, only to become the victim of this horrifying ritual. Apparently, everyone else ate some mushrooms that messed with their minds, and they decided he was the one who had to be sacrificed. It’s just…tragic.
Despite surviving the terrible experience, he unexpectedly died in the current timeline. It seems Travis unintentionally caused his own death while attempting to contact the supernatural being he thinks is responsible for their misfortunes.
Lottie Matthews Grew Up to Become a Spiritual Leader
Season two of Yellowjackets reveals that Lottie Matthews survived the wilderness, and we meet her as an adult. The season shows that she’s become a leader of a spiritual group, having maintained this role for some time.
It wasn’t shocking to learn Lottie was leading another cult as an adult, considering she’d started one in her youth. She’s now experiencing unsettling visions again, causing unpredictable behavior. This could mean she’s reconnecting with the dark forces the Yellowjackets faced in the wilderness, or that Natalie’s arrival has disturbed Lottie’s seemingly normal life.
Regardless of what happens, Lottie eventually dies at home as an adult, seemingly from a fall down the stairs. It’s later discovered that Callie, Shauna’s daughter, was responsible, acting out of anger towards Lottie.
Van Palmer Survived the Wilderness, But Died in the Present
Despite facing incredibly difficult circumstances, Van miraculously survived both the plane crash and a brutal wolf attack. Many viewers anticipated her death in both scenarios, and were relieved she escaped with remarkably few scars. While some found it a bit far-fetched, fans initially appreciated that Yellowjackets avoided the harmful trope of killing off LGBTQ+ characters. Unfortunately, that positive outcome didn’t last.
I was totally heartbroken when Van, who became such a beloved queer figure running a retro video store, was killed by Melissa. It was especially poignant because, as an adult, Van was really trying to be there for Taissa, helping her deal with her inner struggles. The show brilliantly wove together past and present, letting us see these two women slowly connect and seemingly hint at unspoken truths between them. It was a really powerful, if tragic, dynamic.
The situation took a tragic turn when Van revealed she was dying of cancer. Then, Melissa killed her, eliminating any hope of survival. Ultimately, Taissa shockingly ate Van’s heart before burying her body, leaving fans devastated.
Misty Quigley Grew Up to Be Exactly What Fans Expected From Her
Misty is a standout character for many Yellowjackets viewers, and arguably the most driven member of the group. Given her remarkable ability to survive, it’s not surprising she made it through their time in the wilderness—even if her actions initially hindered their rescue.
Currently, Misty works as a nurse in a hospital for elderly patients, which unfortunately gives her access to medications she shouldn’t have. People are confused by Misty – she appears kind and friendly to those she cares about, yet she was willing to kill Jessica Roberts. The show needs to reveal more about her past to explain how she became such a strange mix of caring, ruthless, and dangerous.
Misty is a determined, intelligent, and resourceful character, suggesting she’s likely to survive for a good while. However, her past actions could still come back to haunt her.
Taissa Turner Has Gone Through a Lot in Both Versions
Taissa experienced a traumatic event – surviving a plane crash – and has since dedicated herself to success. At the start of the story, we find her running for state senator. She’s a strong candidate, campaigning on issues like increasing representation for Black women, improving access to quality education, and supporting the LGBTQ+ community.
As the series unfolds, viewers notice something unsettling happening with Taissa. She begins sleepwalking again, and it appears another presence is controlling her, leading her to commit disturbing acts. These include frightening her son by appearing outside his window, killing her dog Biscuit, and placing its head on an altar in a hidden room beneath the house.
Taissa appears to have a dark, controlling side that emerges when someone she cares about is in danger, as seen when she saved Van. In the season three finale, after Melissa killed her, Taissa shockingly ate her lover’s heart. While many mysteries still surround Taissa, she has somehow survived.
Natalie Scatorccio Dies as an Adult In Another Ritualistic Hunt
Natalie is a central character in the show Yellowjackets. The story explores her investigation into how Travis died. As teenagers, Natalie and Travis began a romantic relationship while stranded in the wilderness, and they continued to have an on-again, off-again connection as adults. Much of the current storyline focuses on Natalie dealing with the trauma of Travis’s death.
In the second season, shortly after Natalie’s suicide attempt, she’s abducted by Lottie’s group. Despite not trusting Lottie, Natalie stays with the group while Misty attempts to find her. Unlike characters like Taissa and Lottie who reveal troubling sides of themselves, Natalie mostly remains consistent throughout the season.
Sadly, as the group began a new hunt, things went terribly wrong. Although the cards predicted Shauna’s death, Misty mistakenly poisoned Natalie, and Natalie died in Misty’s arms.
Shauna Shipman Is No Doubt a Survivor
Shauna is the most well-rounded character in the show. When she was a teenager, she had a troubled connection with Jackie, largely because Jackie was involved with her boyfriend, Jeff. Despite this, Shauna clearly cared for Jackie and was devastated by her death. Interestingly, Shauna later married Jeff, which adds a lot of complexity to her story.
Shauna survived the plane crash, but sadly lost the baby she was pregnant with due to the harsh conditions. Now a mother to teenage Callie, Shauna finds her daughter becoming involved in the dangerous secrets surrounding the Yellowjackets. Shauna is a central figure in the story, and her journey is far from over.
Based on what we’ve seen, Shauna appears likely to survive the entire series. However, her husband and daughter are in serious danger because of the choices she’s made. Throughout the third season of Yellowjackets, Shauna has become increasingly threatening and violent, and while she might make it through, her darker side is becoming more and more apparent.
Characters Who Could Still Survive the Wilderness (So Far)
As a huge fan of Yellowjackets, it’s so stressful knowing some characters definitely made it out of the wilderness, but we still don’t know if they’ll survive everything happening now. The women keep saying they’re the only ones left, which is terrifying, but honestly, they thought Melissa was gone too! It makes you wonder just how much they don’t know about who else is still out there. It’s like, are there other survivors they haven’t even accounted for?
Just because we haven’t seen certain characters as adults yet doesn’t mean they won’t show up later as teenagers. We saw Van and Lottie appear in season two, and Melissa in season three, so there’s still a chance for other adult survivors to be introduced. The arrival of a new character suggests the show will continue to bring in guest stars, which opens the door for more appearances.
As a huge fan of Yellowjackets, I’ve noticed the cast has been a bit uneven at times. It looks like season four will introduce even more new faces – characters we haven’t really gotten to know yet, or who were just in the background before. It’s exciting, but also stressful! We’re all left wondering who will survive, because so far, against all odds, most of them are still hanging in there.
Akilah Is Prepared to Survive
Akilah had just joined the Yellowjackets’ team when the plane went down, which was incredibly unfortunate. She’s a dedicated student, and was even studying for the SATs during the trip. Thanks to her Girl Scout training, she’s been a valuable asset, able to identify poisonous plants.
Despite consistently demonstrating kindness, Akilah ultimately participates in Javi’s murder. Viewers often believe Akilah is deceased because she’s not among the adults shown in the present day, but this isn’t a strong indicator, as she wasn’t particularly close to the other characters.
Akilah had the strength and skills to make it through, and potentially rebuild her life. But the unsettling final scene with Lottie suggests she might not have survived. We’ll find out for sure in Season 4.
