In the upcoming film, “Avatar: Fire and Ash“, it has been verified that six malefactors will make an appearance. Among them is a newly introduced Na’vi tribe. Unlike the previous Avatar films where antagonists were human factions from the Resources Development Administration (RDA), who initially aimed to mine Pandora for precious Unobtanium, but eventually sought dominion over the Na’vi homeworld, the Na’vi will encounter human hostility again in “Fire and Ash“. However, this time, there seems to be an internal conflict as well, as the Ash People, a tribe with fire-based origins, appear set to revolt against the Eywa faith and wage war against other tribes.

The upcoming film “Avatar 3” is set to reintroduce 11 significant characters from both the original 2009 release and its sequel, “The Way of Water,” which premiered in 2022. These characters are essential to the storyline of this James Cameron-directed science fiction epic. It’s important to note that the saga won’t conclude with the December 19, 2025 release date; instead, we can anticipate “Avatar 4” and “Avatar 5” in December 2029 and 2031 respectively. In the interim, key figures from the franchise such as Sam Worthington’s Jake Sully, Zoe Saldaña’s Neytiri, Sigourney Weaver’s Kiri, Jack Champion’s Spider, Kate Winslet’s Ronal, and others will make a comeback on the friendly side.

Actress Oona Chaplin takes on the role of the main adversary in ‘Avatar: Fire and Ash,’ where she portrays Varang, the fierce chief of the Mangkwan tribe, also known as the Ash People.

Varang, a groundbreaking character, will mark a change in the franchise trend as she takes on the role of the first villain among the Na’vi in Avatar, a people who have experienced severe hardships. James Cameron revealed to Empire that this character is set to perform actions that would be deemed malevolent.

In a more natural and easy-to-understand phrase: “Varang is the chief of a group who have endured extreme adversity. Her experiences have made her tough. She’s willing to do whatever it takes for them, including actions that might seem evil to us. One of our goals in this movie is to avoid oversimplified portrayals. We aim to progress beyond the stereotype of ‘all people are bad, all alien species are good.’

Colonel Miles Quaritch

Colonel Miles Quaritch, who has previously been defeated by the Sullys in the Avatar series, finds himself twice bested. In his first defeat, he undergoes a transformation, being reborn into a Na’vi body. The future of Stephen Lang’s embodiment of colonial antagonism in Fire and Ash is uncertain, but it appears that Quaritch is ready to engage the Sullys in conflict once more.

At CinemaCon in April, some unique footage from the upcoming film “Avatar 3” was revealed, suggesting a dramatic clash between Quaritch and Jake Sully. Furthermore, it seems that Quaritch may join forces with Varang and the Ash People, who are adversaries of the Sully family, in a case of ‘the enemy of my enemy is my friend.’ This alliance will likely fuel his longstanding grudge against the Na’vi clan.

General Frances Ardmore

In the movie “Fire and Ash,” Edie Falco portrays General Frances Ardmore, who is responsible for directing military activities on Pandora for the Resource Development Administration (RDA). As she spearheads the endeavor to colonize the Na’vi’s homeworld, General Ardmore could represent a new embodiment of the challenges and objectives that the humans are pursuing on Pandora. While Quaritch appears intent on pursuing a personal vendetta, General Ardmore may symbolize the renewed human threat against Pandora.

In the preview for “Avatar 3”, it appears that the RDA has taken Jake Sully into custody, as he was escorted through a boisterous crowd of humans who seemed delighted. If Sully is released from prison, it’s likely Admore who he will report to. However, the details beyond this point are uncertain; some speculate that the Avatar icon may meet his demise in the storyline.

Corporal Lyle Wainfleet

Corporal Lyle Wainfleet, a human hired gun for the RDA, met his demise during the battle at the Tree of Souls in the movie Avatar. However, he was later revived as a Na’vi Avatar and found himself pursuing Jake Sully. In The Way of Water, this led to him being thrown overboard, leaving spectators to believe he had perished.

However, the unfortunate truth is that Wainfleet survives and returns to cause more disruption in the lives of the Sullies, serving as Colonel Quaritch’s deputy in Avatar 3.

Mick Scoresby

In the upcoming novel “Fire and Ash”, Captain Mike Scoresby, who commands the SeaDragon, a ship designed for hunting Tulkuns, is set to make a comeback. Previous events, as portrayed in “The Way of Water”, had led many to assume that Scorseby perished when a Tulkun accident caused him to lose an arm and plunge underwater. However, it seems he has survived and will now be reappearing in the sequel.

After losing a limb during the climactic fight of Avatar 2, Scoresby might be determined to seek vengeance against Payakan in the anticipated blockbuster movie scheduled for release in 2025.

Parker Selfridge

In the movie “Fire and Ash,” we can expect to see Ted (played by Giovanni Ribisi) reprise his role as Parker Selfridge, initially the head administrator for the Resource Development Administration (RDA). However, he was replaced by Charles Stringer after the events of “Avatar.” As of now, it’s uncertain if Charles Stringer will appear in the third installment.

In the film “Avatar”, Selfridge symbolized the peril of human avarice. However, it appears he has relinquished his senior post at RDA. Nonetheless, producer Jon Landeau suggested to The Wrap that Selfridge will make a strong comeback as we progress, possibly implying a plan to exploit more resources from Pandora for profit.
