Every Potential Smash Bros. Movie Character Revealed So Far (After The Super Mario Galaxy Movie)

Warning! This post contains SPOILERS for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie

With the success of The Super Mario Bros. Movie, Nintendo is now in a great position to create a large-scale Super Smash Bros. crossover film. The movie has already introduced important characters from Super Mario and other popular Nintendo franchises, giving them a strong base of fighters from the games who could appear in a movie or show.

Here’s a list of Super Smash Bros. characters who have been in major movies or TV shows recently, or are planned to appear soon. Interestingly, more than half of these characters first appeared on screen in either the 2023 Super Mario Bros. Movie or the new Super Mario Galaxy Movie.

Here’s a list of all the movie and TV characters—from the Super Mario series and other video games—that could potentially appear in a Super Smash Bros. crossover movie.

Mario

Mario is at the heart of Nintendo’s expanding movie world, and would likely be the main character in a potential crossover featuring characters from the Super Smash Bros. series. Chris Pratt’s voice work for the character in the movie, which premiered in 2023, has been popular with audiences.

Luigi

Fans have long hoped Nintendo will create a new game starring Charlie Day’s version of Luigi, with many suggesting a style similar to the Luigi’s Mansion series. Although nothing is official for Mario’s brother, it’s easy to picture Luigi being included in a *Super Smash Bros.style crossover film as well.

Princess Peach

Princess Peach, played by Anya Taylor-Joy in the Super Mario films, is a strong and capable character, definitely not just someone who needs rescuing. The upcoming Super Mario Galaxy movie will especially showcase her fighting abilities. Many of her on-screen moves are inspired by the Super Smash Bros. games, like her use of a parasol, a special side attack called “Peach Bomber,” and even throwing turnips – all familiar to fans of the game.

Yoshi

Donald Glover brings the popular dinosaur Yoshi to life in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. Yoshi is a well-known character from the Super Smash Bros. series and is likely to appear in future Nintendo games. The movie includes Yoshi’s famous “flutter jump,” a move that’s also useful for staying on the battlefield in Super Smash Bros. games.

Bowser

As a huge fan of both Mario and Smash Bros., I think Jack Black’s Bowser from the recent movies would be perfect for a crossover film. He’s already established as a major villain, of course, but remember in Super Mario Galaxy how he briefly teamed up with Mario and Luigi? That showed he’s not totally inflexible and could definitely be convinced to put aside their differences if something even bigger threatened everyone – like, say, Master Hand. It’d be amazing to see that dynamic play out on the big screen!

Bowser Jr.

Benny Safdie provides the voice for Bowser Jr., who serves as the primary antagonist in The Super Mario Galaxy movie. Given that he uses both his paintbrush (like in Super Mario Sunshine) and his famous Koopa clown car, Bowser Jr. would be a fantastic character to include in a Super Smash Bros. movie.

Rosalina & Luma

Brie Larson voices Princess Rosalina, who first appeared in The Super Mario Galaxy movie. As a caretaker of the Lumas on the Comet Observatory, it seems likely she’ll appear in future Super Mario crossovers. This idea is especially strong after the recent reveal in The Super Mario Galaxy movie that Rosalina and Princess Peach are sisters.

Princess Daisy

Princess Daisy appeared in a short scene after the credits of The Super Mario Bros. Movie, hinting at her role in future films. She was shown safeguarding people in the Gateway Galaxy, suggesting Nintendo is building a larger connected movie universe. This has led fans to speculate that Daisy might appear in a potential Super Smash Bros. crossover, as she’s already established as a similar character to Princess Peach in the video games.

Piranha Plant

Piranha Plant, a character from the Super Mario movies, was added to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as downloadable content after the game’s initial release.

Donkey Kong

Donkey Kong, voiced by Seth Rogen in the 2023 Super Mario Bros. movie and having appeared briefly in The Super Mario Galaxy movie, would be a natural fit for a Super Smash Bros. crossover film. He’s been a core fighter in the series since its beginnings on the Nintendo 64.
