Even Sean Giambrone Thought Stranger Things Season 5 Had a ‘Missing Episode’

The show recently concluded with its fifth season after being on television for nearly ten years. While the series resolved the main character arcs, some viewers felt the ending was rushed and proposed a theory about lost episodes that could have provided more closure.

The Stranger Things Missing Episode Myth Went Viral

Gaten Matarazzo, known for his role in Stranger Things, is taking on a new challenge with the comedy film Pizza Movie. He’ll be joined by a cast including Giambrone, Lulu Wilson, Jack Martin, Peyton Elizabeth Lee, Marcus Scribner, Caleb Hearon, Sarah Sherman, and Justin Cooley.

At first, everyone on set thought it was a joke, but Giambrone confessed he briefly wondered if it was actually happening. He told Matarazzo he almost texted him to ask, but decided against it, not wanting to bother him.

Matarazzo didn’t mention the lost episode, despite being present when Finn Wolfhard, his co-star, hosted. Instead, he smoothly changed the subject to praise Giambrone’s texting abilities.

What Is Conformity Gate About?

The fifth and final season of Stranger Things promised the highest stakes yet. After Season 4 left viewers on a major cliffhanger with the Upside Down breaking into Hawkins, anticipation for the show’s conclusion grew during the long break between seasons. Fans expected the same high quality they’d seen in Season 4, and production reflected that – it took nearly a year, from January to December 2024, and cost an estimated $400 to $480 million, according to Puck News.

The show initially promised amazing visuals and a compelling story, but some viewers were disappointed with the plot. While Season 5 had some excellent episodes, it was also marked by a series of poorly received installments, resulting in the lowest ratings the show had ever seen.

The season concluded with the team successfully defeating Vecna, seemingly for good. The finale then jumped forward in time, revealing what happened to each character. However, some viewers felt the details didn’t quite add up and theorized the entire episode was a hallucination, suggesting the characters were still trapped within Vecna’s influence.

It turned out the rumored missing episode didn’t exist, and people have accepted that. The franchise is still going strong, with a new, currently unnamed spinoff series in development, plus an animated show and a live stage production.
