Euphoria’s Future Officially Confirmed After Heartbreaking Season 3 Finale

The third season of the HBO show concluded on May 31st with the episode “In God We Trust.” Although it wasn’t announced beforehand, this episode also serves as the show’s final episode, and the creator, Sam Levinson, has explained why there won’t be a fourth season.

In the HBO show’s recent episode, “In God We Trust,” Zendaya’s character, Rue, tragically died from an overdose caused by fentanyl-laced pills. Following this, Colman Domingo, who plays Rue’s sponsor and father figure Ali, sought revenge on the person who supplied the drugs.

It’s Over for Euphoria

During an interview on The New York Times’ Popcast podcast, creator Sam Levinson announced that Euphoria will not have a fourth season on HBO. He explained that the show has reached a natural conclusion, saying, “This feels like the end of the story we set out to tell, which focused on addiction and its impact.”

The creator of Euphoria has indicated the show doesn’t have a typical happy ending, describing it as a realistic and ultimately tragic portrayal of drug use. They explained that experimenting with drugs carries a very real risk of fatal consequences.

Fans of the show Euphoria won’t be getting a fourth season. Zendaya hinted back in April, during an appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show, that the recently completed third season would be the last, suggesting it would provide a satisfying conclusion for viewers.

Fans weren’t aware at the time, but Zendaya knew that even if Euphoria continued for a fourth season, she probably wouldn’t act in it. She’s a producer on the show, working alongside people like Levinson and Drake.

HBO has confirmed that season three will be the final season of the hit show Euphoria. Although there was some previous speculation, the network has now stated there will be no further seasons.

Euphoria’s Stars Were Ready to Move on From the HBO Show

Honestly, while I’m sad to see Euphoria end, it totally makes sense. The show really launched the careers of its young cast – Zendaya, Jacob Elordi, Hunter Schafer, Sydney Sweeney, Austin Abrams, and even Domingo! They’re all so much bigger stars now than they were when the first season came out in 2019, and I’m excited to see what they do next. It feels like the right time to let the show rest, knowing they’ve all found such success because of it.

Honestly, even though Zendaya and the rest of the cast are amazing, trying to juggle everyone’s schedules – and probably negotiate all the paychecks! – might have just made a fourth season more trouble than it was worth. It’s a shame, but sometimes it’s better to leave things on a high note.

Now that Euphoria has finished, I’m already looking forward to seeing what the cast does next! Luckily, it seems like everyone has a lot going on. I know I’ll be checking out Zendaya in Spider-Man: Brand New Day and The Odyssey this July, and I’m excited to see Jacob Elordi in The Dog Stars when it comes out in August.

Sweeney is working on two exciting projects based on well-known stories: Gundam and The Housemaid’s Secret. Schafer is set to star in Blade Runner 2099, a new limited series coming to Prime Video in 2026. And for those who still love Euphoria, all episodes are available to stream on HBO Max.
