I was genuinely shocked and saddened to hear the news, and it seems the whole world felt the same. Even her longtime co-star and friend, Eugene Levy, was clearly heartbroken – you could just feel the loss radiating from him.
The actors had a long history of working together, spanning decades. Both Eugene Levy and Catherine O’Hara were members of the famed comedy troupe Second City Television and collaborated on numerous films and television shows, most recently the hit series Schitt’s Creek. Following O’Hara’s passing, Levy shared a touching statement with Us Weekly.
“Words seem inadequate to express the loss I feel today,” the statement started.
I feel incredibly lucky to have known and worked with him for over half a century. It all started with those early days at Second City, then we moved on to SCTV, and had a blast making movies with Chris Guest. But honestly, the six years we spent creating Schitt’s Creek were something truly special. I always treasured our collaboration, but even more than that, I cherished our friendship.
Levy finished by saying he was saddened by the loss and sent his deepest sympathy to Bo, Matthew, Luke, and all of the O’Hara family.
The actress and a close colleague weren’t the only ones saddened by the news. Dan Levy, who acted in and helped produce the film alongside his father, Eugene, also posted two pictures of himself with O’Hara on Instagram. He wrote, “It was a true joy to work with Catherine O’Hara and be touched by her talent for so many years.”
I worked with Catherine alongside my dad for over fifty years, so she felt like family long before she acted alongside my family on screen. It’s difficult to picture life without her, and I’ll always treasure the funny moments we shared.
He expressed his sympathy for Bo, Matthew, Luke, and all of her large and wonderful family.
Sarah Levy, daughter of Eugene Levy and sister of Dan Levy, shared a heartfelt post on Instagram remembering Catherine O’Hara, who played the character of the Café Tropical waitress Twyla. She wrote about how much she loved and admired O’Hara, calling it an honor to have known and worked with her, and expressing how deeply she will be missed.
More Schitt’s Creek Stars Reacted to O’Hara’s Death
Catherine O’Hara starred as Moira Rose, the lively and dramatic mother of two and former actress, in the series. Eugene Levy played her husband, Johnny, while Dan Levy and Annie Murphy played their children, David and Alexis, respectively. O’Hara’s performance also earned her a Golden Globe award.
Jennifer Robertson, who played Jocelyn Schitt on the show Schitt’s Creek, shared her sadness over the loss of Catherine O’Hara with USA Today. She described being around O’Hara as a wonderful and special experience, noting that the actress was a true star who remained humble despite the attention. Robertson expressed her sympathy to O’Hara’s husband, Bo, her sons, and the entire O’Hara family.
Chris Elliott, who played Roland Schitt, shared that working with Catherine O’Hara and Eugene Levy was a dream. He especially appreciated Catherine’s kindness, generosity, and humility. He’ll always cherish the laughter they shared both on and off camera, and fondly remembers a fun shopping trip they took to Joe Fresh.
