Elizabeth Olsen Is Ready to Bring Scarlet Witch Back to the MCU

Few would disagree with wanting to see more of the Scarlet Witch, and those who do might face a similar fate to Black Bolt in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness – he didn’t fare well when he challenged her! If Elizabeth Olsen gets her wish, we’ll see her return in Phase 6, potentially before or during Avengers: Doomsday.

As a huge fan, I’ve been following the MCU closely, and it’s great to hear that Elizabeth Olsen, who plays the Scarlet Witch, really wants to return to the role soon! She recently did a Q&A on October 4th where she talked about how much the part means to her, and honestly, she admitted she’ll always struggle with saying goodbye to the character. It’s clear how connected she is to the Scarlet Witch, and it’s exciting to think she’ll be wearing the red crown again in the future.

“It’s a role I’m passionate about, and one I always look forward to revisiting,” People reports Olsen told the Hamptons International Film Festival’s “A Conversation With…” series. “Over the past five years, I’ve had the opportunity to explore the character in ways I never imagined. There are still storylines from the comics that I’d love to bring to life, and I think the fans would enjoy them too.” Olsen also stated: “These films are made for the fans, not the critics.”

I first saw Olsen play Wanda Maximoff – or the Scarlet Witch, as most of us know her – back in Avengers: Age of Ultron in 2015. That was part of Phase 2 of the MCU, and she was introduced alongside her twin brother, Pietro Maximoff, who went by Quicksilver. It was awesome getting to see them both join the team!

She lived past her brother’s role in that movie and went on to star in much bigger films, including Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame and the critically acclaimed Disney+ series Wandavision, for which she received an Emmy nomination. She then became a key player in the disastrous events of Doctor Strange: Multiverse of Madness, ultimately sacrificing herself to destroy The Dark Hold across all universes.

Following those events, there’s been talk that Elizabeth Olsen and her character, the Scarlet Witch, might unexpectedly reappear as we get closer to Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, though this hasn’t been officially announced. What *is* clear is that Olsen is eager to reprise her role, and she’s particularly interested in revisiting WandaVision for a second season with Vision-the show was such a hit that it led to the popular spin-off series, Agatha All Along.

I’ve found it incredibly rewarding, and the stories have continued to resonate with me and my character. I truly enjoyed the experience,” Olsen stated, also dismissing the idea of ‘superhero fatigue’ in the theater world. “Some actors have long-running TV shows they can always return to. But I think very few get to be involved with franchises that, while we as a culture might sometimes get tired of them, create a really close, family-like atmosphere.” Olsen then shared what makes Wandavision stand out to her. “There’s just nothing quite like it, and I don’t know if I’ll experience that again unless it’s with a continuing series. I appreciate that consistency; it’s a good feeling. Honestly, job security is always a plus – I think we can all relate to that.”

Olsen raises a great point: the Marvel Cinematic Universe hasn’t fully explored the Scarlet Witch’s complex story from the comics. This is especially surprising given that she’s one of the most powerful beings in the multiverse and significantly impacts many other characters’ journeys, and yet, there’s still at least a small possibility .

In the words of the Scarlet Witch herself: that doesn’t seem fair.

Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled to hit theaters on December 18, 2026.
