Elizabeth Olsen has spoken about what’s next for her character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and specifically addressed rumors about her appearing in the upcoming Avengers film, currently known as Avengers: Doomsday. She discussed her time playing Wanda Maximoff and what her future with the franchise might hold.
Elizabeth Olsen on if she will appear as Scarlet Witch in Avengers: Doomsday
While promoting her new movie, Eternity, Elizabeth Olsen discussed her time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe with The Playlist. She expressed pride in the work they’ve accomplished but remained uncertain about her future involvement. When asked about appearing in a potential team-up movie, she explained that she’s currently waiting to see how her character’s story unfolds, as she appreciates the direction it’s taken and hopes to see it continue.
Elizabeth Olsen enjoys playing the Scarlet Witch, but she doesn’t currently know if or when she’ll reprise the role, especially with no plans for multiverse storylines underway. This suggests she won’t be involved in any immediate ‘Doomsday’ scenarios.
Filming for Avengers: Doomsday finished in mid-September 2025. While Elizabeth Olsen has said she won’t be in the movie, Marvel is known for keeping surprises, so fans are still wondering if she might make a cameo. Some believe she could follow a similar path to Andrew Garfield, appearing unexpectedly. Therefore, fans shouldn’t rule out seeing her in at least one of the next Avengers films, and possibly both. Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled to be released on December 18, 2026, after reshoots for Avengers: Secret Wars, planned for spring 2026.
Beyond her work in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Elizabeth Olsen is now choosing to work on more independent and artistically focused films. One of these is “Love Child,” a darkly humorous movie where she stars as a woman involved in a scheme by a boy trying to get his mother and a boarder to become a couple after his father has a serious health scare.
Elizabeth Olsen is also starring in Panos Cosmatos’ upcoming film, Flesh of the Gods, a visually striking 1980s vampire thriller with Kristen Stewart and Oscar Isaac. Olsen shared that she’s looking for roles in projects with more substance, saying, “I don’t want to just do one big franchise movie after another. I’d like to work on films that really say something about the world we live in today.”
Both movies are still being made, and this shows Elizabeth Olsen is focusing on projects with unique directors and independent creative control.
