Warning! This article contains MAJOR SPOILERS for Stranger Things season 5, episode 4.
In the upcoming fifth season of Stranger Things, Eleven has discovered something that severely weakens her powers – she calls it her “kryptonite.” As she and her friends get ready for their final battle against Vecna, the terrifying monster from the Upside Down, they’re facing a lot of challenges.
Following the dramatic ending of Stranger Things season 4, the military has arrived in Hawkins and is now in charge. However, they’re also pursuing Eleven because of her abilities and the potential threat she poses to their work. To capture her, they’ve brought in some advanced and powerful technology.
The Military Has Kryptonite Against Eleven & Her Powers

Eleven’s abilities come from the Upside Down, and the military is now operating a base there to study it and any dangers it holds. They’re still learning, but they’ve discovered a strange energy source they can use against Eleven and people with similar powers.
This weapon seems to be a sonic blast fired from small satellites mounted on their trucks. When activated, the devices send out a signal that’s inaudible to most people, like Hopper, but intensely painful and disabling to individuals with abilities like Eleven.
What Happens To Eleven When Her Kryptonite Is Used
When Eleven gets too close to these machines, she seems to be in a lot of pain, sometimes even causing her to bleed from the nose. This likely means the signal is overwhelming her abilities and making it hard for her to stay in control.
The show didn’t fully explain how these machines function, suggesting there are still mysteries to uncover as the final season progresses.
Is Eleven’s Kryptonite Actually Kali?

Eleven questioned a soldier, hoping to learn about the lab, their weapons, and the new leader, K. While exploring the soldier’s memories, she saw a door that seemed linked to her weakness, leading her to believe the army had captured Vecna.
In the fourth episode of Stranger Things season 5, Eleven discovers a surprising truth: Vecna wasn’t the one locked up in that room – it was actually Kali, also known as experiment number Eight. They first met in season 2 and connected through their shared childhood trauma from the lab.
There’s a theory that Kali might be the reason Eleven’s powers weaken in Stranger Things. When Kali was connected to machines, they could have been sending out a signal from her mind. Now that Kali and her followers have had time to research this, they might be able to recreate the signal and use it against Eleven – and even Kali herself – in the final season of Stranger Things.
