The story is reaching its climax, and that means long-held secrets are finally being revealed! For years, fans have wondered about things like the origins of the World Government and the true nature of the One Piece treasure, and now they’re getting answers. Recent discoveries, like the story of Joy Boy – the world’s first pirate – are incredibly exciting, and readers might soon learn even more about what happened during the mysterious Void Century.
As a long-time follower of One Piece, I’ve noticed fans are really digging into every little detail about the characters, and the latest focus is on Saint Manmayer Gunko. We first saw her in black and white in the manga, but the cover of Volume 113 finally gave us a colored version. Her blue hair immediately struck people as similar to Nefeltari Vivi’s, and since both women come from families that helped create the World Government, it’s got fans thinking Vivi might play a bigger role as the story starts to reveal more about Imu and the Government’s origins. It’s exciting to see these connections being made!
Gunko and Vivi May Share Ancestry From the Void Century
Most One Piece fans are familiar with the broad strokes of how the world came to be. Centuries ago, twenty powerful royal families joined together to form the World Government. They overthrew the Ancient Kingdom and its hero, Joy Boy, and then flooded the world, creating the islands we see today. However, many specifics remain a mystery, including the identities of all the original royal families. So far, only two are known: the Nefeltari and the Nerona. Interestingly, the current names of the Celestial Dragons (the world nobles) might or might not match those of the founding families. This means it’s unclear if families like the Manmayers, Shepherds, and Jaygarcias have any connection to those original royal bloodlines.
A popular fan theory in One Piece proposes a connection between the Nefeltari royal family and the Manmayer family, possibly suggesting they share a common ancestor. The main evidence supporting this idea is the shared blue hair color of Nefeltari Vivi and Manmayer Gunko. While blue hair isn’t completely unique in the series, it’s still uncommon among the vast number of characters. Other blue-haired characters, like Vinsmoke Niji and Charlotte Myukuru, come from different families, making the similarity between Vivi and Gunko potentially significant. Their shades of blue are quite close, with Gunko’s being a slightly darker hue.
The similar hair color between Vivi and Gunko strongly suggests their families are connected—either they share a common ancestor, or one family helped the other become powerful. We know Vivi’s ancestor, Nefeltari Lily, chose to return to Alabasta instead of staying with the other founding royals in Marijoa. It’s possible some of Lily’s family disagreed with this decision and settled in Marijoa, perhaps even without her knowledge. This could even explain why Lily never made it back to Alabasta—these dissenting family members might have labeled her a traitor and worked to stop her, eventually establishing the Manmayer family.
If Gunko and Princess Vivi are related by blood, it’s possible the mysterious ‘Will of D.’ is also part of their lineage. This idea stems from the fact that Lily, whose full name was Nefeltari D. Lily, didn’t return to Marijoa with the other royal families after the Ancient Kingdom fell. There’s a small chance this connection between the Nefeltaris and the Manmayers means the ‘Will of D.’ could be present in the Manmayer family, even within Gunko herself. If Vivi and Gunko were to meet, their reunion as members of this blue-haired family might trigger something extraordinary in Gunko.
One Piece Needs More Than Action to Complete the Plot
While exciting battles are a big part of One Piece, simply winning fights isn’t enough to move the story forward. Key moments, like Blackbeard defeating Whitebeard or Luffy overcoming Doflamingo and Kaido, are important turning points, but resolving the overall plot requires more than just strength and power.
The final arc of One Piece will likely involve the Straw Hats having to fight powerful enemies like Imu and Blackbeard. However, One Piece stands out from series like Dragon Ball because it focuses on more than just winning battles – it has a much richer and more intricate storyline. In a complex anime like this, simply defeating the main villain isn’t enough; the Straw Hats are also fighting to uncover the truth about the world.
In the world of One Piece, uncovering the truth can be just as impactful as a powerful attack. The World Government fears this so much that they’ll destroy entire islands, like Ohara, if they reveal the secrets of the Void Century and the Government’s origins. Simply defeating the leaders isn’t enough; Imu and the nobles must also be challenged on their beliefs and the facts they’ve hidden. Characters like Nefeltari Vivi could play a key role in exposing these truths and bringing about real change.
While it’s not certain, if a strong connection exists between the Nefeltari and Manmayer families, Vivi seems like the best person to reveal it to Gunko and Imu as the story nears its end. This discovery could be incredibly important, potentially revealing that the world isn’t as peaceful and fair as the ruling royal families want everyone to believe, and challenging the idea that power is shared justly around the empty throne.
