For nearly ten years, the Yellowstone series has been a huge hit on television. Now that the original show has finished, fans of the Dutton family can still enjoy new stories from creator Taylor Sheridan, exploring different aspects of familiar characters. Similar to when a band splits up and members pursue solo projects, viewers are curious to see if these Yellowstone spin-offs will capture the same magic as the original, or if they’ll reveal new dimensions to the characters we know. In the case of one spin-off, however, there’s a lot of similarity to what made the original Yellowstone so successful – so much so that those involved felt like they were essentially making a sixth season.
In an interview with Collider, Greg Yaitanes, director of both Marshals and Dutton Ranch, discussed whether Kayce Dutton (Luke Grimes) might appear in Dutton Ranch or Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly) in Marshals. He believes Kayce’s appearance in Dutton Ranch is more probable, given the storylines of both shows.
That’s a great question! We discussed it quite a bit, as everyone wanted to switch shows. Personally, I think Kayce would fit best back at Dutton Ranch. As a fan, that’s what I’d really be excited to see. I’m just not sure Beth would work as well within the world of Marshals. Kayce would easily blend into Dutton Ranch because it has a similar feel to the original Yellowstone. Many of the people working on Dutton Ranch felt like they were essentially making Season 6 of Yellowstone. Marshals is more focused on action, guns, and that kind of exciting stuff.
It makes sense that Kayce returning to the Dutton Ranch feels natural, but Beth unexpectedly showing up in the world of the Marshals could be what makes this crossover truly exciting.
